Default Dealer cannot pull codes from Audi A6

A check engine light came on on my son's Audi A6 2.7. Dealer was unable to pull codes from the computer. Offered no suggestions. The car had an Alpine digital video unit installed during the summer by professionals. The car does have the BOSE system and therefore despite having a harness for the new installation, I believe some additional wiring may have had to have been done. I have had the radio fuse removed and they still can't pull codes. Any thoughts on the next step?

Thanks,

Mike

Check engine wouldnt have much to do with the radio. Has the dealer tried clearing the code and checking if it comes back? sometimes the code sticks around until it is reset, and then does not come back after. Hope that helps!

The problem seems to be that the code computer can't access the ECU itself. It seems that they get a blank screen or an error that the actual hard wire is not accessing.

So is your ECU shot?

The car runs fine. Dealer wasn't helpful in supplying additional helpful hints. I would think that if the ECU had a major meltdown that there would be other signs of trouble?

Thanks for the feedback! A competent installer or Audi dealer will know what the k-line wire is and will be able to patch?

shouldn't be a big problem to solve this.
have an installer check your diagnostics plug. pin 7 is the K-line wire.
not sure what color it is on an A6. i think it's gray/white.
let him pull your radio and check the wireing behind it.
while you are at it, also check the L-line wire.

Many thanks! I will pass this on to the dealer/installer.
