2003 A6 getting worse than avg mpg
I just picked up a 2003 A6 with roughly 90,000km on it...
It's a 3.0 quattro and driving really soft and taking it easy I'm getting anywhere between 15.5 and 17 L/100km. This is mix of highway/urban.
My 1.8t A4 was getting like anywhere between 8-9.5L/100KM.
I can't help by wonder what's going on. It's worse than it's supposed to be and I did bring it to get checked at the dealer for another issue but nothing was picked up on...
Kinda stumped. I checked the spark plugs, seem clean. The engine thermostat seems okay too.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Heavy foot perhaps ?
it could be number of things
spark plugs since you check it they are ok
sparkplug coil is defective, or not making full contact
oxygen sensors failing in most cases
MAF sensor
Coolant temp sensor
sensors can be easly check usualy with Ohmeter you can verify the resistance and compare to specs required by the book, if you have access to bentley it will tell you the required resistance, if you have extended warranty you can ask them to check these sensors, and they can test it with VAGCOM
