Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Greetings all. We just bought our first Audi A4 2009 from a used Car Dealer with 98,000km. This topic of oil consumption really concerns us. But it's too late to turn back now (sing it!).
Car looks and drives amazing! We are excited...well until discovering this common issue. Car has not been delivered, still in Safety, detailing process. Have asked Dealership to speak to Audi to resolve this oil crisis prior to delivering the car.
Not sure if the used car dealership can do anything directly with Audi (they are the biggest used-car dealership in town) - let's hope they have some pull.
Otherwise, I am getting my wife to nag Audi head office to death! Other suggestions or tips welcome as well.
Thanks you!

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Hey everyone,
Just thought I would share this experience of mine.
2009 A4 Avant - 88 km CPO from Audi Dealership. Picked up the car and put on a 1000 km or so. Down a liter of oil. Went into the dealership and was initially told by a mokey of a service advisor that it was normal for a tfsi engine..blah blah blah....thankfully my awesome salesman referred me to another service site that is operated by the same dealership.
SO far. Failed stage 1. went from 1l/1000km to 0.65l/1000 km as per computer diagnostic connected to electronic oil sensor.
Went in today. Engine is in pieces as the long block is exposed as I walk into the service area. Cylinder #1 has scoring down the cylinder wall from a defective piston. Also the spark plug from that cylinder is extremely fouled even though it had new plugs put in just 1000 km ago!
At the moment, waiting for audi canada to either approve the engine replacement or pistons and rings depending on whether the scoring is bad enough or not to warrant this!
Cheers!

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Using a different type/brand of oil is for sure worth a try. I switched from Mobile to Lubromoly in my Porsche and it stopped a leaky seal.
However if there is any mechanical damage that has been the culprit of oil consumption, switching oils will merely mask the symptoms...as in my case...
We have to remember that VERY few of cars require further intervention than stage 1 for oil consumption and I am sure your is totally fine....

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
just got car few weeks back (pre-owned). Mentioned this to dealer. They didn't seem to care, since it was off warranty. If there as an official protest/letter signed by all owners with this issue, Audi would seriously consider offering total recall on all vehicles. this is not right!

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Suggest that you by pass the dealer. Go directly to the Audi zone rep and depending on the milage you should get more satisfaction. You have nothing to lose. This is a known problem. Should Audi help. I would find another dealer to do the work. Good Luck

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Separate issue. Today, I decided to open up the oil lid to have a first look. Previous to this, was able to see oil levels via MMI. Now, after opening the lid, I keep getting this odd message that never goes away: "...warm engine oil after 2mins...".
Tried resetting MMI, tried doing as instructed in error message - nothing seems to work.

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Opening the bonnet causes the oil sensor to reset. This takes time, be patient and drive the car awhile. This is why some of us purchase a dip stick.
