Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
I have Audi care and dealer uses Mobil one oil in all 2.0 litre turbo VAG engines. I naturally do not know what your dealer uses, maybe teach them a thing or 2 about oils. Maybe they will continue to use Castrol so they have more work in their shop. Yes I agree having audi care and the dealer using the wrong oil sucks. I do oil changes twice as often as Audi Care allows, and maybe you should too and have them use "your" oil... My dealer is so busy they do not want the extra work of rebuilding engines. They feel it is not in the customers best interest to rebuild. Easier to use an oil that"works" Good Luck

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Audi had a problem with their engines. They don't want anyone to know about it so they state that using .5L/1000 km is acceptable. Which of course it is not. Every Audi owner I have spoken with since 2006 - 2011 with 2.0T has had the same complaint and they dont know what to do about it. Audi will not do anything unless you take steps outside of Audi.
1) look in your owners manual. There is a group called CAMVAP camvap . ca. It stands for Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan. Open up a complaint as soon as you can as there is a 3 year window for complaints.
Unfortunately this is run by the Automobile manufacturers but at least they take these complaints seriously. We have no lemon laws in Canada as if you were in the US Audi would be obliged to purchase the car back from you.
2) contact the better business bureau to make a complaint against Audi to force them to deal with the problem.
3) contact the law society of upper Canada to enquire about setting up a class action suit on behalf of all audi owners with the same problem.
4) create resources for all Audi owners so that they know what they can do when perplexed with this problem as well.
Unfortunately Audi will give you the run around and perhaps offer to pay 50% or less of an engine replacement as that is what is needed but without external pressure they will delay the process in hopes that you will go away. This is a significant issue for Audi which I expect the viability of the company rests on them getting this problem to disappear.
Let us know how it goes and if anyone has clarifications or corrections I would welcome them.

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
I just bought a 2010 A4 with sports package 1.5 weeks ago and went to the dealer today since it burnt 1 liter of oil. I went late in the day and the salesman told me that I would get a call back tomorrow to set up an appointment.
I'm waiting to see if they will be straightforward and tell me that this is a recurrent issue with many 2.0T's. And what they plan to do to remedy the situation.
My question is, if they do go the route where the replace the pistons and rings and if this hypothetically solves my oil burning issue, would the feel of the car be the same after such a huge repair has been done?
Secondly, has anyone been d***ed around when trying to get this issue resolved with a dealer? I have 49K km's and got the vehicle certified also. So I'm guessing I'm well within a time limit to take action against the dealer and Audi Canada if they do decide to waste my time?
Any responses are appreciated.

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
This why I'd rather stay away from anything 2.0 FSI Turbo from the A4 series. The only acceptable oil buring situations are extremely worn engines with 500,000 kms or more.

Oil can be "consumed" in a lots of different ways. An engine that consume oil doesn't meant that it is worn.

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
What I find interesting is Audi sells a boat load of vehicles with the 2.0T not everyone is having oil burning issues. My question is what is the difference? Yes I like to "drive" my A4, the only thing I do, other than following the Audi prescribed maintenance, is I change my oil every 5K without exception. I have never had to add oil in between changes. It would be interesting to see if this issue arises more in certain model years, my two 2.0T's were an '08 and a '12. Thoughts?

I'm sure most are ok. The ones that aren't are probably neglected, abused or serviced at long intervals.
The ones I've checked out always seemed to be low on oil (around the add mark).
