Default A4 Oil Min Light

Hey guys,

So thought I'd ask if others have seen this. I have an 09 A4 and since I've purchased the car, I've topped up the OIL with 1L bottle 2 times. Seems to happen about every 2 - 5K. Got my oil changed at 8K and now at 10K the light has come on again.

I asked the dealer when I went for my 8K and he said it's normal. I've heard buzz that this isn't normal... then I've hear people say it's an Audi and it's normal for the 2.0T.

Others have said synthetic oil does not burn so where does it go?

Should I be concerned?

It's not normal. Which dealership did you go to?

I went to the one in Markham. Markham/Warden.

I have to say, I love my car but the friggin yellow light in the Driver Information area in the dash always has something new.

- no oil
- fill up washer fluid
- and latest and greatest, my rear reverse light is out...

I have an 09 A4, purchased in July. I have put on 25,000K on it (long trips to the US) and I have never had an issue with any warning light. I just took the car in on Monday for it's second oil change....everything is good and tight on the car.....So to answer your question, no it's not normal ...take it to a different dealer...I use Downtown Audi...GREAT to deal with.

Now on the other hand, my last car was an 03 Porsche 911 and it was normal to go through a litre of oil every 8-10K.....

went to see the dealer again. they said it wasn't in fact normal for that to happen and they need to do an oil consumption test. downside is they can only do the test when the oil light turns on again.

*hoping it doesn't turn on again...

i've also started noticing a little rough idling when i'm at a stop sign. i can feel the gear shift and steering wheel slightly vibrating in my hand. i don't be SHACKING.. i might very faint. when i put the car into neutral, sounds like a library in my car... *SSHHHH

Just guess what. On Dec 31st 2009 I put a L of oil in as the light came on.

On Jan 28th, the light came on again! That's less than a month and I think only about 2K of driving.

I'm not putting in any oil and taking the car in this week for them to look at.

so after getting a piston ring replaced and a cam shaft actuator in my B8 A4, I was happy to see no minimum oil light come on after about 1500K of driving...

however, i checked the oil level on the MMI and it says pretty darn close to minimum level. no light has come on in the driving information display but MMI shows i should probably top it up...

should i be concerned?...

You're asking for trouble with 16,000km between changes. Ask any mechanic/audi enthusiast...they will tell you 5-8k intervals...i personally chance every 7.5k to meet halfway of audi's 15,000km recommendation but damn...16,000?!?! If you're planning to own this car for a while...I hope you realize that 16k intervals will cause sludge build up...even though sludge isn't as big in the 2.0 as it is in the 1.8...i still wouldn't risk 16k intervals...just my 2 cents

So far i have yet to have any issues at all and im at about 54kms. when i do oil checks its still almost as clear and clean as the stuff in the bottle i use to top it off with. i will prob start going every 10k soon tho as the kms start to creep up there.
