2010 Premium - ipod cable for AMI?

Re: 2010 Premium - ipod cable for AMI?
Thanks poker838 and Regina_TTS for your help. Appreciate it.
I have the iPhone 3GS. The guy at the dealership (who spoke to the technician) was telling me it was a matter of just getting a different cable for the Audi, he didn't mention the MMI (can someone elaborate what this is? thanks) software update. But now I'm assuming they were wrong about the cable and meant to say a software update was needed. It doesn't really matter, considering after the "update" it should be working.
So, Tony are you able to use your 3G S phone for making calls hands free and also play songs from the your phone using the cable? Or do you need to sync up to Bluetooth and then connect it to the AMI to do both (hands free talking and listen from your iPhone music library). Thanks again for your help.

MMI = Multi Media Interface. The navigation, communication, entertainment and vehicle systems control unit in your vehicle. It consists primarily of a control ****/button/joystick and an LCD screen located in the centre console.
From what I understand, the 2010 A4's are equipped with the 3G MMI system. (2009 had the 2G system.) It's quite possible that you do need a different cable (3G) if they have been mistakenly supplying the 2010 models with old (2G) cables.
Cars that are in transit or sitting on the lot often don't get recall updates (including software) done until they are prepped for delivery once they are sold. Sometimes you even have to ask in the service department if there are any recalls on the car. I only knew about the MMI software update on the Q5 because other owners on different forums had posted about it. Your car may or may not have a software update available.
I was able to use the 3GS to make calls from the day I first tried it in the Q5. As long as your phone is within BT range, you should be able to pair it and place and receive calls. It should also load your contacts and your caller lists.
The handsfree works with the Bluetooth phone prep, independently of the AMI (iPod controller.) In order to use your 3GS as an iPod and control the music through the MMI system, you have to plug the phone into the AMI cable.
On a related note, (in case you were wondering) Audi offers an BT adapter for AMI, but only for the older 2G system. (https://www.audiforum.ca/q5-q7/48791...ter-q5-no.html) Hopefully they have a 3G adapter in the works and we will see it soon.

Thanks Tony,
We are still in the process of buying a car (be it the A4 or the BMW 328iX). During our test drive we tested the AMI with my iPhone. Thanks for clarifying BT capabilities and AMI.

Either way, good luck with your purchase!

We will all be pretty biased about which one you should buy here, but we can pretty much guarantee you will be more than happy with the A4. That and with all of the time we've spent with you, you almost owe it to us to get an Audi now.

If it were up to me, I would be driving the A4 right now. But that's what marriage does to you
I have another question if you don't mind, it's about the stainless steel/chrome exhaust. The models we've seen at the dealership has plain steel exhaust. The guy we talked to said we can purchase the chrome ones and the garage can install them. What's your opinion on them? Do you have them, if so how do they look? How much should I be paying for them? Is it worth it? Not having them makes the rear end look "cheap" () Seeing them on the S-Line looks damn sexy.
PS
The help from this board will go towards the pros of buying an Audi.

I guess that's why I have a TTS in the garage instead.
You're right: The chrome tips are included with the S Line model or are an available accessory for non-S Line cars. They are subtle, but totally finish the back end of the car.
I know a couple of guys who have bought them as accessories and are very satisfied. Quite happily, both of my cars included the the tips.

You're much better off to go aftermarket with this. I've had the Audi OEM iPod controller that is available for your car in two different Audis and a VW. It's an overpriced piece of garbage: https://www.audiforum.ca/audio-video...html#post80303
The Dension Gateway 100 that I talked about in the above link has been updated to include more functionality AND text information on the DIS. So far I have it installed in my TTS and a friend's 07 A4. Installation took less than 15 minutes on either car. On the A4 it was less than USD $200!

I have Sirius SAT Radio so I needed this as well...

Re: 2010 Premium - ipod cable for AMI?
Has anyone had any issues with the ipod AMI playing music really quietly. When I switch back to the radio it's much louder and sounds much better. I connected a 2nd generation Ipod Nano and had the volume setting on the player at max. Could this be a cable issue? I have a 2012 with 3G MMI Navigation and the blue gromit AMI cable. Is that the right cable?
