Valve noise on 3.2

Valve noise on 3.2
Hello guys,
I just bought a 2006 a4 3.2FSI with 70 000km and I hear a noise when the hood is open (not so loud and nothing audible from the cockpit). To me, it is clearly a valve noise. this noise is audible either when the engine is cold or hot.
I read that it is normal from an FSI engine but I also read stories about almost new engines to replace due to valve lifters issues.
Starting to be affraid... do you hear kind of ticking noise in your cars too?
thanks!

Re: Valve noise on 3.2
Eventually I had to go to Audi to replace a back light and I asked the advisor. He told me that it was totally normal because of the mechanical fuel injection. Then it was funny because the guy waiting in the line behind me asked the same the question for his brand new A4 3.2!
I feel better! :P

Re: Valve noise on 3.2
Better to pester them now and find the issue (assuming you have some warranty?)

Re: Valve noise on 3.2
Unfortunately I don't have any warranty...
Service and the whole (Audi) mechanical inspection have been done prior to my purchase (2 weeks ago) but I plan to do another one in a month to be sure everything is allright...
Why do you worry me that much? Do you have FSI engines? no noise at all?

Re: Valve noise on 3.2
just a quick note here.... as you are likely aware, the FSI engines are prone to carbon build up on the valves by nature, because the fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber, and therefore, the fuel doesn't flow past the intake valves. this is important, because many fuels have detergents (for example shell's nitrogen enriched fuels) which will somewhat clean the valves. this can not happen on a FSI car.
on the upside, i have read about many people in the USA starting to use lubro moly 10w50 in these engines, and it apparently helps a lot. it must be this specific oil though.

Re: Valve noise on 3.2
yes, the noise is normal on a 3.2... speaking from owning one of course
I didn't notice the noise, and neither did my dad who's been into german cars for 30 years at first, but when he did, we both lost our ****.
First thing was to goto audi and get it checked out, was told it was normal and all 3.2's sound like that. Went to another dealer 5 minutes away, and was told the same by two guys there.
finally I went back to my mechanic, and he works out of the back of the dealership where we bought the car. Luckily the dealership had 2 other 3.2's in stock, so we warmed them all up and they all had the exact same noise. it's strange, i relate it almost to a diesel like engine sound.
