Default Stuttering when accellerating under load. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi guys,

This is just starting and it's not very pronounced but IT IS THERE.

When accelerating in either 3rd or 4th gear and going past 3000rpm, the car stutters just a bit. Enough for me to take notice. When I try to reproduce the problem I usually can't but it's happening every now and then.

I'm guessing one of my coil-packs is going as the last time I felt this was when I had the ECU flashed at TAPP Auto and I replaced all the coil packs to handle the increased load.

So thinking this I scanned the car but no fault was found as far as coil-packs go. Here is a copy of the scan.

Can anyone help me out?

Have you asked the boys at Tapp to take a look at this ? Probably a good idea as they'll certainly be able to take care of a few of your faults. I'm a WD40/ Duct tape kind of guy so all I can think of is check your plugs, air and fuel filters ...

Good luck !

some people say our fuel filters should be changed every 40-60k, as part of routine maint.
i have yet to change mine, but i do intend to change it sometime this week.
if yours is old, perhaps it is a little plugged, and causing fuel issues. another possibility is the start of a vacuum leak.

I have a 2006 S4 and changed the filter this past summer. When I cut open the old filter I couldn't believe how dirty and clogged it looked. I read that a plugged filter could cause premature fuel pump failure. As a result I intend on changing the fuel filter every two seasons. They are not much in cost and I can post up a DIY that is very easy.

I changed it 2 years ago so I'm pretty sure it's not the FF.

This felt exactly like it did when I needed new coilpacks so I'm guessing it's either that, a faulty spark plug or a clogged injector. Now last time my it was my coilpacks, the CEL came on and that was because almost all the coilpacks were failing under the increased load. Would one coilpack that is just starting to fail trip the CEL? I'm asking because if it won't then it could very well be a coolpack. If it will then it may not be and I'm stuck guessing again......

Thanks for the help guys.

Is it an automatic? then it is the torque converter locking, it can happen anywhere in 2,3,4th gear and in between those gears. I've taken it to a mechanic once because my a4 kept doing it in 2nd gear around 2-3500rpm and he said it was very normal. I've searched other car forums and they all had the answer of "torque converter locking." If the issue is what i think it is, then your car doesn't have a problem.

ps. Does it stuttering include a random rpm drop of 200-400rpms?

it's manual tranny.....

Actually, has anyone ever removed and cleaned their injectors? If so, how did you do it? Is there a link to a write up?

With regards to a writeup for the FF here it is.

To remove the injectors, you need an 8mm Allen wrench. Remove the 2 Allen bolts holding the rail in place, and you can pull the rail back from the intake mani. The clips holding the injectors unplug easily, as do the electrical plugs. About a 3 minute job to take off all 4. It took me under 10 minutes to remove my stock ones and reinstall my audi TT injectors.
