Default Steering Wheel NOT Straight

Just purchased a 2008 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro with 38,000KM a few weeks ago. Noticed this morning driving into work my steering wheel is canted to the right. The vehicle holds straight with this cant to the right. VERY frustrating with so little km on it!

How serious is this? Is it better to have this looked at now by the dealership immediately?

Can not see this being covered by Warranty would it

Sound fishy. The first thing I would eliminate is tire pressure. Make sure they are all accurate. I had one tire with 4 psi less and noticed the steering wheel was canted to one side.

Then comes the obvious questions like do you know if the car was in an accident? Are all the tires the same make and size? Has there been any work to the suspension without doing a wheel alignment? Etc.

Let us know how you make out?

Hmm Funny you say that. Was not going to give that info away to direct someone's opinion.

Yesterday night while driving home from a buddy's house my tire pressure warning light came on. Drove a few more km before pulling over and testing with my tire digital tire gauge. All the tires were all over the map. Recommended was I believe 38 PSI for tires. The warning light I am sure came on for my rear driver side with only 29 PSI. The remainder were all in the 40 - 44 PSI range. I took them all down to 39PSI.

Maybe I should verify this again that they are all at 39? I like to keep them 1 PSI above the recommended. I LOVE to corner and accelerate hard. This a no no?

Am I to assume that once you corrected the tire pressure the steering wheel problem went away?

If I was right you can credit my reputation!!!

Sorry for the misconception... Even though I have adjusted ALL my tires to 39 PSI there is still a cant to the right in the steering wheel.

Are you suggesting maybe I just need to verify my tire pressure again on all tires?

What does it say on the inside of the drivers door for pressures. Mine says 44 front 34 rear. I know its wierd but that what it says.

Just verified: Front & Rear both 36 PSI

Would 3 PSI over affect the steer wheel being off set

the tire pressure on the side of the driver side door is based on cold tires.
So the tires should be cold and holding that much pressure as stated.
If you are holding the recommended after a drive, then you are off.

Yea, my tires I checked last night would have been hot I suppose. Doing 120Km/h for quite a few clicks.

I will verify at lunch the pressure being held and let you know! Thanks for the help my man!

This brings up an interesting question. This was an engineering question from school.

If you have 35 psi in a tire and then take that same tire to to top of mount everest will the tire be harder or softer?
