Re: Rattle/Noise coming from defroster/dashboard area
Different materials in your car (glass, metal, plastic etc) will have different coefficient of expansion and may cause squeeking, rattling noised in different temperatures.

Re: Rattle/Noise coming from defroster/dashboard area
I know this is an older post, but I wanted to chime in. I have a rattle in my B8, somewhere in the dash on the driver side. Luckily I am still under the 10,000km limit where they still cover rattles and squeaks. That being said, I've been to the dealership 3 or 4 times now, and left it with them for multiple days and they have not been able to fix it. Like others, mine is intermittent, depending on temp and humidity some days (or weeks!) it's constant, and other days (if i'm lucky) it's fine. The dealer has thought they fixed a couple things that they said were rattling (I'm not sure what they were hearing, but it wasn't the same rattle - and for everyone's info, I've had test drives with the service manager, service advisor and another mechanic - all of whom experienced the rattle with me in the car).
Needless to say it is extremely irritating, and I fear I might be deafening myself since I have to turn the stereo up to keep myself from going crazy some days...
Also, I don't think the fact that there are many different materials in the dash that may expand/contract at different rates should be any excuse. I've had two nissans that have been 100% tight and rattle free for the entire 4 years I owned them. I've been in friends' BMW's which are also 100% rattle and squeak free. If japanese automakers and (dare I say) BMW can make rattle free cars, I don't think that it is too much to ask for Audi to have the same or better.
My 2cents!
For the time being my car is still rattling, I'm delaying going back to the dealership till my first 8k service, but I have a feeling I've located the rattle myself in the fuse panel. I haven't tried putting foam in there yet...

To be honest with you, i don't think they give a shiz to fix the little rattle.
I don't think they will have one or two of their technicians tearing away at a new audi with a simple little rattle. Sure, it's a simple fix..... but they have to spend time and energy (and money...from the dealership's point of view) to remove the dash, disassemble and disconnect things, slap some double-sided tape on the rattle and button it all back together again. Especially when the mechanics could be instead working on something that makes the dealer lots of money. AND Especially on a brand new audi, which is otherwise mechanically sound.
Sorry to say but i think you're on your own.
I have a rattle under the middle of the dash in my 06 A4, i still have extended warranty but i can't wait for it to be done so i can get at the darn thing.

I agree that they may not care about something like this when there is probably bigger jobs to do, but the fact is, the dealerships do not volunteer their time. Warranty work is paid for by Audi, not the dealerships, so every hour they spend is still paid for.
Although you may be right that I probably am on my own after that many visits and no fix...

Re: Rattle/Noise coming from defroster/dashboard area
I found where the noise is comming from. Its from the steering wheel, if I press on the upper trim the noise stops, jus comes back from time to time.
For me it didn't made a difference wether it was cold or warm outside.
I will try to remove the trim, but I think I'm missing a tool.
