Re: Importing A4 from US
If you don't plan on going back to the US (I think in the next 6 months) then yes. Duty, PST, GST should all apply to your situation. Then comes registration (out of country inspection, out of province inspection).
Good Luck.

Hmm.. I would think there's a way to bring it over without paying duties, taxes, etc. That just doesn't make sense, but who knows... I wouldn't put anything past our goverment! But you'd definitely be responsible for meeting Canadian standards... shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Re: Importing A4 from US
I was under the impression that DRL's could be "set-up" using Vag? Is this not correct? I am planning on getting a S4 from down south in a few months, this thread is amazingly helpful.

Re: Importing A4 from US
As far as i know it depends on the model. Correct me if i'm wrong but it believe the B5 S4 would require a rewire and the B6 onwards would be a simple VAGCOM switch.
By the way - just got the A6 fully registered and is waiting to get the speedometer replaced to have it in km.
The experience between driving the GTi down and transporting the A6 here made it clear for me. Next time i will not use a transporter. i was more tired but less stressed after driving 20h nonstop with the GTi than waiting nearly 2 months for the AUDI!!

Re: Importing A4 from US
Why are you getting it replaced. It has KMs on the inside as well as MPH? What was your solution on the DRLs? I had to wire mine in on the 03 A6, $25 DIY from Cdn Tire (to the fogs). Pretty easy.
Zuma, did they bat an eye at the bilingual air bag tags?

Re: Importing A4 from US
i am getting the speedo replaced just cause it is easier to read quickly. The km's on the inside is in a lighter font and super small. Photoradar is VERY POPULAR in st albert.....anyways it's an expensive itch that has to be scratched for now. call it personal reasons....It was definintely not a requirement when it went thru CANADIAN TIRE.
No worries about the non bilingual airbag stickers. Guy at Canadian Tire even said he doesnt care for it at all.
Oh by the way get this!! the canadian instrument cluster for my A6 costs actually just over a 1000 bucks, but since this is a US Vehicle AUDI adds a $400 charge that they usually would absorb.....grab ya ankles and say aaaaaah!!

Re: Importing A4 from US
DRL's i enabled myself thru the MMI - i am gonna ask them to enable the fogs as DRL's instead tho since the DRL's that MMI enables are the ones in the headlight assembly.

Re: Importing A4 from US
Hello,
Yeah I have now bought and imported 3 vehicles from the US via eBay. A Benz and 2 Passat's. Never had an issue and some sellers will even make out 2 bills for you if you wanted to get one made out for a smaller amount so you pay less in taxes but I would never do such a thing You have to arrange for shipping and then pick it up States side. Once at Canadian customs, you will have to pay the $100 luxury tax if it has air conditioning, 6% German import tax, and GST. Before anything however, you will pay the RIV fee of $208 at customs which will cover the Canadian Clearance inspection done at most Canadian Tire locations and a safety inspection will have to also be done. You will be charged the PST at the time of insuring it.
Goto Registrar of Imported Vehicles RIV: How to import a U.S made vehicle into Canada to make sure the model you are interested in is allowed clearance into Canada as a lot of the Audi's are not. Here is the PDF list below:

If you have any more questions about it just let me know. I just bought a 2002 A4 1.8T from eBay (4th purchase) and it is on its way up here as we speak

Re: Importing A4 from US
I have an '08 on order and negotiated with the US-based dealer at the time of purchase that they would activate the DRL's for me. I'm told by them that it's just a computer issue and very easily changed. If you're buying from a dealer, get this thrown in when you're negotiating with them, may as well.
