Default Headlight Bulb change 101

Hey Folks,

My light recently burned out on my B7 2006 and i was trying to change it the other day. I only removed the reservoir and the air intake area to get the bulbs. Once i got there, i had one hell of a time trying to figure how to remove the stupid bulbs. I have a regular halogen H7 bulb to change so i figure it wouldn't be too complex. But the one thing that gets to me is there's a clip that's locking the bulb in place and i can't seem to get this bloody thing to pry open and don't want to break it

i know i know, i've tried searching in all the forums and found nothing...for this part...

anyways, did anyone have any suggestions??? and pictures would be amazing for all those experts out there who are willing to provide advise little old me...

Thanks folks

Hey JR

I had the same expeience until I realized that those retaining clips dont actually come out. The bulb simply pushes into place inside them. To remove the bulb go back to the stage where you had access to the back of the bulb and just turn it 90 degrees and pull straight back. It should come out easy.

Good question. Before I upgraded my A6 headlights to HIDs I was running stock halogens. Those metal clips simply hold the bulbs in place and are not to be removed at all. Be careful because they are fragile. You simply squeeze them together and swing them outwards. Remove and disconnect the old bulb. Place the new bulb in, secure it with the clip and reconnect the wiring. Now you're good to go!

Hi guys, just tried to change the driver's side bulb in my 2008 B7 A4. I went through all the DIY links, but couldn't get the reservoir out of the way enough to get access to the screws for the headlight cover. I took out the two screws and the clip at the bottom. It moves up and around, but no matter what I tried, not enough to get out of the way. The screw closest to the fender also looks like it's blocked partially by some wires running along the side. I gave up.

Anyone have this issue?
