Climate Control Issues

Climate Control Issues
Hi. I am the new owner of a 2007 A4 Avant. I am confused about the 'auto' feature of the climate control. It seems that I can't get cool air by just setting it to desired temp.
Scenario
Any idea what can be the issue? I can only assume the compressor/condenser are working because when I switch to Econ mode, the air is absolutely freezing until after about 4 minutes it becomes the outside air temp. My car shows no error codes or error lights.
One thing I notice is when I set the temp to 'low' and auto the compressor is fully engaged but the flap motor behind the pollen filter is fully closed. WHen i switch it to Econ the flap opens. This issue is very confusing.
I am not great at vehicles.
Thanks for any assistance or opinion you might have.

Scenario
- Outside temp is being reported at 25.0 C (HOT!)
- Inside temps on the climate control are set at 18.0 C (Cool -brrrr)
- climate is set to auto. (red lights illuminate auto on both buttons)
- I can hear the condenser/motor? absolutely ripping behind the dash.
- Issue: no air is coming out the vents although the vents are cold ...
- Switch to Econ mode/middle vents (condenser shuts down).
- Cold air starts blasting out of the vents. (blowing the cold air that has built up)
- Cold air eventually becomes outside warm sticky air (expected)
- Switch back to auto (condenser fires up)
- Air from vents stops blowing

Re: Climate Control Issues
While aircon is on, have you tried manually redirecting air in turn to just footwell vents, middle vents and windshield to confirm the internal flaps are functional- sounds like the vent control logic is messed up when in A/C mode

Re: Climate Control Issues
Hi. Sorry I didn't realize I had other replies than 'something must be wrong'. When I am in auto mode and click the middle vent it turns off auto and just goes to econ.
When in econ and hit the middle vent I get full air.
The other odd thing is that if it is say 27.5 outside temp (according to the dash display) and I set the auto temp to say 20.0 I get no air. The compressor is fully engaged but no air. If i then bring the auto temp up to say 25 I start to get some cold air flow (around 2 bars of fan). I can then slowly bring down the auto temp 1 degree at a time over about 10 minutes maintaining 2 fan bars of power. If I just drop it down, I get nothing. This is a very odd issue. Is there a way to reset the console? is this something that anyone has heard of before. The last odd thing I noticed was that when I spay the windshield with cleaner while driving, the air shuts off until the spay dries or is gone.

Re: Climate Control Issues
I don't have any other ideas, however if you PM me, we could arrange to get together and I can run a VCDS/VAG-COM diagnostic scan for you to see if the air-con module is showing any error codes.
