cam follower worn through
So I decided I have ~100k km on my B7 A4 now. Weather is all nice, why not do some preventative maintenance and swap out my cam follower before it wears through?
I'm too late though. Didn't notice anything wrong with the car yet, but the follower was worn right through. Looks like there are some scratches on the cam lobe but I didn't notice any large gouges. The tip of the HPFP instead of being pointed has worn on an angle.
So now what? I put it all back together with a new follower in... Bad idea? They'll still honour warranty even if I found the problem right? Or should I swap the bad one back in and drive it broken into Audi?

Audi will only take care of it if you have a check engine light on. I tried to get my GTI's slightly warn follower replaced and they said they wont do it because they have no reason to even go in and look at it untill there is a light on. I had to pay them to remove the fuel pump and look at it and ultimately had to pay out of my own pocket for everything to be done (by everything i just mean labour to remove the pump and the follower itself plus parts) Have you been throwing any codes? if you have then put everything back together and say youve been having fuel cuts and get it in asap while your still near 100k, hopefully they will honor it and replace everything. If you have revision "a" cam they should replace it with revision "b" as well

I don't think I have had cuts... Not sure what the cut feels like.
Was just reading about it on the forums and figured I should probably take a look. I was totally suprised, I didn't expect that it'd be worn through.

Re: cam follower worn through
I think that was a compounding factor in the failure. When I had Audi care, I changed the oil every 7500 km and still do. When my warranty ran out, I started using motul. I bought the car at 39K and now have over150k on it, and never had any follower issues. I checked the follower at 70k and changed it for peace of mind. The black coating was still there with some smooth scratches, nothing crazy. I recently checked the follower and it looks like the last one I took out.

mine is shot through too, i just had the timing belt job done 2 days ago and did the follower while i was at it. my shop showed me my old one that was completely shot through and recommended me to take the car back to audi when i have a chance. I was just checking the extended warranty for my car, it does cover the cam follower, but i have it replaced already. i'm just worried about the other stuff around there since the guy said to take it back to audi

Re: cam follower worn through
When I went they just wanted the broken follower. Then they replaced the cam and HPFP. They said they put a new revision cam in my car. So of anything it's worth it for that I guess.
