B7 A4 Rear seat squeak
Well it got cold out and my A4 started squeaking so badly I couldn't believe it wasn't a 20 year old car.
Went to 2 dealerships asking them to look at it. They both sprayed on lube and told me that should fix it. No go. After searching around on forums I found out this seems to be a pretty common problem. Especially on the rear passenger seat.
What I did to fix it was get a flared 17mm wrench (a socket wouldn't go deep enough over the striker) and loosened the nut on the striker bolt that the seat latch clamps on to. Tightened the striker about 3/8s of a turn and retightened the nut on the striker. When I closed the seat you could feel it was a tad sticky on the way in. Seat stopped squeaking.
So much for the dealership being useful.
Cost me $60 for the wrench set at Princess Auto. Well worth it for a quiet ride.

Re: B7 A4 Rear seat squeak
Yeah I'll try get some pics... After that big cold snap it started squeaking again. So I'm gonna try tighten it a little more and see what happens. Was nice because for a few weeks it was so quiet

Re: B7 A4 Rear seat squeak
In my car, it is the rear-seat back-rest. The back-rest has a bit of play and over time, the catch-mechanism rubs. So I first put some silicon spray on the catch. I later put some cloth behind the seat to so the catch-mechanism grabs a little more snug.. I found this out by accident when I tried to fold the seat down, but had forgotten to unlock it. It squeaked when I pulled at it. Hope this makes sense and helps.
I suggest - to test the theory, fold your seats down - the squeak will likely stop. Then that's the culprit.

Re: B7 A4 Rear seat squeak
After I read the initial post I just folded the seat down then back up. Problem soved lol. It came back after a few weeks, I repeated the procedure and it hasen't mad a sound since. It only seems to do it when it's below about -10C.
