Adding Engine Oil

Adding Engine Oil
Hi All,
I just want to ask if anyone have similar experience as mine.
My 2007 A4 eats 1qt of engine oil every 2000km or 3 months, is that common ?
I have almost 20 years of driving experience but this only happen to my A4. My last 2 vehicles were VW Jetta and VW Passat but none of them had such a syptoms.
I asked the service guy at Audi, and they told me that is normal as the engine is a Turbo engine, but I really want to know where did the engine oil go ? Was it burnt ?

Re: Adding Engine Oil
The 2.0T has some oil consumption issues, some are worse then others and some brands of oil help reduce the consumption. They burn oil due to the oil getting past the piston rings. Some cars had new rings installed under warranty, just google 2.0T oil consumption and you will read some stories. Yours is borderline excessive, mine goes trough a quart in about 4-5 thousand KMs. Make sure your PCV system is working OK, that can cause the crankcase to become pressurized and cause blowby.

Re: Adding Engine Oil
No - just add oil unless it's been a year/15,000 km since you last change. Yeah I know some folks recommend a shorter change interval. Totally up to you - don't know that the longer factory recommended interval has been proven to cause any problems.

Re: Adding Engine Oil
No need to remove the old oil - look at your oil dipstick and add enough so that the oil level comes back up to the max level marking. Add small amounts at a time and check where the level goes to as you really don't want to overfill.
If you don't know when the last oil change was done, then I would suggest you do a full oil-change now and then monitor from this point on, using 12 month/15,000 km cycle.

Re: Adding Engine Oil
My 2005 A4 never took a drop of oil. Now I have a 2010 A4 since August 2011 and I am presently paying close attention. I had to add oil twice in the last 12000 km.

Re: Adding Engine Oil
I have an 08 2.0 and I did, the oil goes down on approach to oil change time. I do mine at every 10k. It doesn't drop dramatically but it's noticeable on my dip stick. No low oil light appears tho.

Re: Adding Engine Oil
1year/15000KM oil change intervals is crazy! Most ppl with cam follower issued are changing their oil as per Audi recommendation. I change my oil every 7500KM, exactly at the half mark of Audi's recommendation. I have no cam follower issues, I check mine twice (70000 KM and 150000 KM) and the black coating is still there. And I don't burn oil because my oil is still much thicker after 7500KM vice 1year/15000KM.
