2008 A4 P0171 issue
Hello all! I've been browsing the forum for the last couple days, but haven't found any particular problem like mine. I just bought a 2008 2.0 A4 Quattro with the S-Line package. Took it into the dealership just before 50,000 miles. Came back just fine. Of course, at 51K it pulls a P0171 code. Other symptoms I've noticed:
1) Reduced gas mileage, especially at lower speeds/gears
2) Shakes for a second or two on start-up
3) A cyclical scraping noise on idle or cruise which gets worse through a drive. It sounds fine upon acceleration though.
I understand the basics of fuel trim pretty well but, as this is my first DIY fix on this car, I was hoping anyone who has had this exact problem or is more auto-mechanically inclined than I could help me out with possible causes. (And, unfortunately, I don't have access to a VAG-COM). If there's any other information that I've left out that may be pertinent, please let me know what you need. And thanks in advance for any help.

1 and 2 - likely cause is a very small boost or vacuum leak. Have a look at the hoses and see which one might have deteriorated or be a little loose. Possibly also the PCV as they could fail at anytime - when mine did I would hear a whistling sound after the engine was turned of.

Slight update. I put the car on some stands and checked the hoses the best that I could with no result. Took a stethoscope around the engine compartment and the cyclical noise seems to be coming from the rear of the engine, and the farther down I went with the scope, the louder the sound got. Checked under again looking for anything out of the ordinary, but didn't find anything. Anyone been through this before? Thanks in advance for any help!
