2007 A4 B7 Climate Control Issue
Hey there,
I'm hearing a lot of clicking coming from various places behind the dashboard, usually within 10 mins of starting the car. It seems to be related to the Climate Control unit. When I switch the module off the clicking stops, when I switch it back on the clicking resumes. The clicking only lasts about 15 - 20 seconds and then stops. My typical journey to work only lasts for 30 mins and I don't hear it a second time during the journey.
I read an old post on a different forum which suggested it may be a motor voltage being out of tolerance or the gears controlling the vent flaps are slipping, maybe as a result of the voltage being out of tolerance, but so far an internet search hasn't revealed much insight.
The CC unit seems to work ok, fan speeds up when the engine warms up, I get hot/cold depending on the temperature I've set, I can change the airflow direction from windshield, to front and to floor and they all work ok. It's more of an annoyance right now but it didn't do it when I purchased the vehicle 6 months ago (vehicle is 3 years old). I've contacted Glenmore Audi to see if I can talk to someone to see if they've heard of this before and if it's covered under warranty (I have a further 2 year extended warranty on the vehicle). I'm just waiting for a reply.
Has anyone heard of this issue before? Any advice greatly appreciated. So far I love driving this vehicle but I hope this isn't the start of repair bills.
Thanks
Carl

I always assumed this was normal. Usually coincides with the car warming up so I figure it's opening up the vents inside to allow the now-warm air into the car...

From Glenmore Audi's Service Manager:
"The noises are coming from HVAC flap actuator motors. There is a product update for those motors. The motors generally will function but they making that clicking noise. We would need to identify which one as there are 6 motors in the system. Unfortunately that can be time consuming and Saturday's wouldn't be the best day as we only have apprentices working and we try to keep that day to services only. The replacement of that part or parts would be covered under your extended warranty"
Fantastic that they know about the issue.

I should update, I had the warranty work done last week. They couldn't determine which one of the 6 motors was having the problem so all 6 were changed. I can't hear them at all now but then I usually have the stereo on.
