2006 Audi A4 - Trunk Release
Hi All,
Recently purchased a used 2006 Audi A4 which has a CPO Warranty. I wanted to know if anybody has experienced having their rear trunk release button stop working? I am referring to the one on the drivers side door. I can only open my trunk via the trunk release button on the remote.
I know that the CPO warranty will cover this however there is a $100 deductible for any services rendered under the plan. I was wondering if this is something simple, such as a fuse?
Finally, once the trunk is open, it often has trouble shutting (the lock latch doesnt catch), resulting in me having to try and close it about 10x before it works.
Are these two problems related?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
-Chris

Re: 2006 Audi A4 - Trunk Release
not sure about the switch in the door.
if you remove the truck lining you can see the mechanism that opens the trunk there will be a white plastic arm on the right that go to a electric motor make sure this is secure and as back as far as it will go on its mounting slots.
also the plastic cover that covers the latch on the trunk lid needs to be pushed all the way up it takes a bit of a shove to lock it in place, try to pull it off then snap it back into place.

If u can open it with the remote key but can't with the release button, the problem is that it is lock with the key at the door. Unlock it and problem solved.
For the door not latching could be just a minor ajustment.

yes it unlocks with the key fob / remote....
it doesnt unlock with the button on the drivers side door and when i tried putting in the key and open it on the trunk, the key would not turn, i didnt try forcing it too hard but it didnt seem to want to open with the key..

Re: 2006 Audi A4 - Trunk Release
Have the same problem with mine ('07 S6).
Tried lubricating the latch, hoping problem was purely mechanical, but I found a new variant a few weeks ago - if the car is locked and I then open+ close the trunk, odds are MUCH higher the trunk will latch-then-unlatch on its own. This almost always occurs with (a) the advanced key in my pocket, (b) I'm closing the trunk from the left (drivers) side of the car, and (c) the car is starting out in a locked state.
Unlock the car, then return to close the trunk - voila!, the latching behavior is correct.
Which leads me to STRONGLY suspect this is due to a misfire of what I believe is the "protective" Advanced Key feature that won't let you close the trunk if (a sensor, I presume) believes the key is physically in the trunk, eg it falsely things the key is in there (vs in my pocket)
Hasn't bothered me enough to warrant it's own trip to the dealer...yet. Not sure how similar the circumstances are to what you're seeing?
For the latching problem from another forum.
