Default 2006 Audi A4, Cam problem $4700.00 Bill HELP!!

This past weekend, while driving down I-75 in Atlanta, my perfectly maintainanced, 61,000 mile 2006 A4 2.0T started vibrating, lost all power and died all within the span of about 15 seconds. The check engine and epc lights came on and the car wouldn't crank.

I had it towed to the local Audi Dealer (Jim Ellis) and the called me today saying the cylinder head broke and the car needed new cylinder head, cams, valves and a turbo bipass valve. $4,700.00 dollars.

IS THERE ANYWAY TO FIX THIS YOURSELF OR FOR LESS COST.

I will never buy an audi again. This is complete bull$hit!

Any Adivise would be helpful thanks.

Anything someone else can fix, you can fix yourself, given the appropriate tools, knowledge, and experience. This definitely does not sound like a DIY job if you have to ask if you can fix it yourself. You could always look around the 'net for a used head and have a good mechanic install it.

Did your t-belt/tensioner/waterpump fail?

No, the dealer got permission to further investigate from audi america, (after they were promptly called), but are left scratching their heads after taking apart the entire engine.

They are submitting pictures of the phenomenon to audi engineers at corporate to see if they can figure out what caused this sudden and complete engine failure. They are already ordering the parts and will cover everything thank God.

I am picking up my loaner tomorrow.

For someone who is saying they will never buy Audi again is sure liking the fact costs are all being covered.. See, Audi is not so bad after all!!!!

I would strongly suggest to find a new used engine for it. The bill should be about the same.

You will absolutely hate the engine once they put rebuilt head on the old engine. The truth is that these parts will never fit properly and what you get is constant leaks of everythying everywhere, cylinder pressure problems, rough idling, weird acceleration, oil consumption engine failure, seized valves - you name it - you will have it.

You are going from the shower to the gutter spout right now with this idea.

Funny thing, the same thing happened to me this past weekend. I was traveling on IH 75 in Dallas and my check oil pressure light came on and not 10seconds later, lost all power and had to coast across 6 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. Repairs are up to $4500.

Who did you contact at AUDI USA? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great news that they are covering the cost. Are you sure you've been putting in the proper octane fuel in it? LOL

Around $5000 this is what should cost from dealership.
Used engine with lower milleage will cost u $1500-2000 plus $1000 instalation, total around $2500-3000.
Even $3000 to $4500-5000 u can get newer engine with lower millage.

I had the same problem and the dealership has replaced my complete cylinder head with a new one(not rebuilted one). I was at 70k km when they did it and now I am at 105k km without any problem.

I don't feel so bad now doing my first major engine repair at 250,000 km and 10 years and $5,000 at Pfaff Vaughan dealer. Had broken cam. Had to take car back after repair as engine light still on and running rough. Pfaff Tuning called them to talk it over and dealer worked for another 5 hours on engine at no cost. Can't believe how smooth engine is now! Car is finally running better than new! All new OEM parts used. Takes worry out of equation for me.
