Re: 2006 A4 2.0T Avant Fuel Pump & Camshaft failure
Hi Everyone,
I'm fairly new on this Forum, so bear with me... On our 2006 Avant with less than 55K miles the High Pressure Fuel pump (made by Hitachi !!!) failed, it took out the Camshaft as well... replacement cost about $ 2600.00.
Anyone else had this problem? Very curious?
Bert

Re: 2006 A4 2.0T Avant with 110K
Hey guys,
Thanks for your comments, I bought the 2006 Avant with 20K miles on it ( a US lease back), and I must assume it did not have an "after-market" fuel pump, so Audi must "farm-out" the Fuel pump to a "supplier", in this case Hitachi. That must be the source of the problem, because it is a very basic mechanical drive off a Camshaft Lobe. As old a system as my old Porsche 912 had...
I believe that this is a very old-fashioned system with electronic technology today, I will try to share this experience with some photos... I have been in touch with Audi here in Canada and the US, so far "nada".
Thanks for all your comments and interest!

Hi Folks,
Here's an update on my issue with the High Pressure Fuel pump/Camshaft failure... a phone call came from Audi Canada today. They will cover the entire cost, so Audi Canada will send me a cheque for
$ 2,600. I'll tell you it made my day and then some. So if anyone else has run into this problem don't hesitate to contact me:

Cheers to all the Audi Faithful

Although that $2,600 you saved is a tremendous amount, I'm curious as to what caused that issue and if it can happen again the future. I don't imagine Audi of Canada reimbursing you every time this happens, and hopefully it's just this one time. The scoring on the camshaft ends are pretty serious. My camshafts on my A6 don't look a thing like that, and I have 280,000km of aggressive driving behind them.

Re: 2006 A4 2.0T Avant with 110K
Great question!...I've been pondering the same one myself. I have a 06 Avant that I purchased as a CPO in the fall of 09. Extended warrantee is up in November and I anticipate I'll have just over 100K on the vehicle by then. So far the car has been running great...although the bill for the 85K service at dealer was a little steep. I love the car, body is perfect and as I mentioned it's running great however I'm curious what the long term costs might be if I choose to run it for another couple of years. The low finance rates from Audi have me considering flipping my 06 for an 08...monthly payment stays about the same and you get another two years of warrantee...almost like leasing hey? Decisions...decisions!!

Re: 2006 A4 2.0T Avant with 110K
I guess it all depends on what options and selection you have compared to the pricing. If you can get more car for the money then why not? The differences between the B7 and B8 models are not as evolutionary as the B6 to B7. Keep in mind a car is a car and they all require maintenance.
See what works for you and if Audi can get you a better car for less cash. I've never leased a vehicle so I know nothing about leasing.
