It could be your coil packs, best thing is to find someone with a Vag-com and get it scanned!

As 1move recommends, you really should have the car VAG scanned.

There could be more than a few reasons why your Audi is experiencing rough running. A VAG scan will help determine the specific issue which will help ensure you spend money on the right parts the first time.

a vag? computer but is this something most shops will have or will i have to find a specific one. Started it up today but didn't drive it and the Engine light doing the same thing blinking on and off and car just feels as if it's a big V8 that is rumbling but no idling problems stays at 8000 rpms.

8000rpms????? im assuming u ment 800rpms. deffinatly sounds like one of your coilpacks is bad because when one of them does go bad ur check engine light will blink and your car will sound like a wrx with an exhaust when u rev your engine. if more then one coilpack was bad then your car wouldnt start but when one goes bad ur car will be running on only 3 cylinders. im not sure how much experiance u have with working on cars but coil packs are very easy to change. vagcom would be usefull because it would tell u which cylinder is misfiring and then u would know which coilpack to change. u can buy 4 new coilpacks but if ur short on cash and dont feel like getting raped by dealer prices u can buy one coilpack and swap it for the one in cylinder one, then start your car and see if its back to normal,if not put the original coilpack in cylinder one and swap out #2 fir the new coilpack and so on and so on till your car is back to normal. sry for the overly long post. the last thing i am going to say is that before u spend any of your hard earned money take out all of your coilpacks and simply reinstall them tightly because sometimes a coilpack will simply come loose from the sparkplug due to engine vibration and or cylinder pressure.(i know this because this happened to my car and a local shop that i trusted tried to convince me that i needed a knew engine). let me know how everything works out. good luck!

yes sorry i meant 800 rpm idling. the car does start still. The audi i have no clue what i am doing haha i've changed taillights on it so far and that is all. i had a 1997 volkswagen VR6 and was just learning to do some stuff on there. if you could tell me how to change the coil pack then i'll for sure do it. not straped for cash but i'd rather learn for myself for future purposes and save that money towards parts that make it go faster! haha

If i need any special tools or anything and just how to change it some direction.

thanks

EDIT by 1Move: Do not attempt this by hand read the post below thisone

well it sounds to me like u dont have much experiance with cars. does your car sound like a wrx when u give it gas? the reason that i ask is becuz i cant tell you that im a 100% positive that it is you coil packs but i will try and help u anyways lol. alright so basicly changing coil pack is so easy its almost as easy as changing an air filter. alright so basicly you can do a test that should tell you if one of your coilpack are bad. your coilpacks are located under your plastic engine cover. there are 4 of them since your car is a 4 cyclinder and on your car they run up to down. go on google and try to find some info on what coilpacks look like on your car so that when you take off your plastic engine cover you will be able to locate them easy. also try to look up a DIY (do it yourself) for your car on how to change coilpacks or how to change spark plugs becuz the sparkplugs are located under the coilpacks so a diy on how to change spark plugs would have to first tell you how to remove your coilpacks. okay so lets assume that it is your coilpacks but you want to make sure right ? so heres what u do. since u said your car still starts that would mean that only one of your coilpacks is bad because your car can run on 3 cylinders but not on only two. the first 3 coilpacks are fairly easy to unplug so if you find two coilpacks that u can easily unplug then u can do the test but make sure u only unplug one at a time. basically you cant really tell which one is bad just by looking at it you would have to plug your car into a machine that would read your computer and tell you which cylinder is misfiring and that would be the one. okay soo lets say you take off your plastic engine cover so you can see your coilpacks. if your car is idling and you unclip one of the coil packs, there is a 1/4th chance of it being the one that is bad. if your unplug the one that is bad there shud be no change and you shud still be able to turn your car of and back on and there should still be a check engine light. now remember that there is a 3/4 chance that the one that you unplug will be a perfectly fine working coilpack. in this case you will have one coilpack unpluged and one that is not working so it is as if you have two that are not working and when two coilpacks dont work your car wont start. i have to go to a docters appointment know but give that test a shot and let me know how it works out. ps. once you have the plastic engine cover off you should simply be able to disconnect the first couple of coilpacks by hand.( not physically removing it but dissconceting it from a power source)

DO NOT DO THIS BY HAND As some faulty coilpacks still run current trough them and they can arc across and shock you and on a DC system at high amperage you DIE!!!!!

So do not do what he said!!!!! With the car off! Go to the coil packs and unplug one then go try and start the car but leave the coil pack out of the way of any metal parts at least a few inches as your chasis and any metal componen is acting as a ground. try this proceedure with all 4 coil packs and when your car starts you have the faulty one.

Other wise CLICK HERE and buy this!! and then you can test your car
