Default Water pump replacement

Hi everybody... I have been told by the mechanic that the water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. He explained that it's the same kind of labour effort needed to replace the timing belt, and it's going to be around $600. Does it sound right ?

I'm no expert but I can't see how replacing a water pump is as labour intensive as replacing the timing belt. Seems odd to me.

That's why I'm asking for different opinions/experiences...

Bumper and front part of engine need to be removed to get to the water pump and timing belt area. Recommendation from most folks is if you are doing one, do the other while you are in there, otherwise you will need to pay a 2nd labour charge for removal and replacement of bumper and engine front some time in the future. Also make sure the water pump replacement part is the metal one, not the plastic version.

That's been taken care of... metal for sure...

Ok, it makes sens now... Thanks a lot. Is around $600 a reasonable quote for this replacement ?

$600 sounds about right to me cause it is pretty labor intensive.
