Touchee!
If I broke 200kph EVERYday, my friend, there is still no reason the flywheel should give after 140k...

Importcarpartscanada.ca and autopartsonlinecanada.com are offering the part at $680/$690 respectively.

Dealer charge is in the $900-$1k mark

I have a sales acct at a wholesaler to the tune of $820 for this piece.

Cheers,
Andy

I did not mean to suggest you are a speeding driver... but your Audi did come from California with previous owner(s) and at least one state does not have speed limits

Is it a dual mass flywheel in your vehicle?

The car was actually from montreal, where I poached it off a lease from Audi Canada (so it was dealer maintained...).

The clutch was replaced upon my purchase, Oct. 2008. Yes, it does have a dual-mass flywheel...sadly.

My mistake, OP had the Cali car... did we ever hear what happened with his?

Sorry to say that "dealer maintained" does not mean alot as some dealer staff drives the car harder than you or I ever would!

Dual mass flywheel helps reduce engine vibrations which provides very smooth running and long lasting engines. Some report that a single mass lightened flywheel will accelerate crank bearing wear and possibly intoduce vibrations depending on balancing technique. If your keeping the car stock, I would suggest replace your flywheel with OEM part from wherever you can get best pricing.

We're on the same page here...agreed, oem part is the way to go!

Not sure what happened with the cali car either...was hoping he'd throw a follow up here? Lol

Concerning the dealer maintenance, I intend on bringing the matter to Audi Canada's attention and so will use the point to my favor.

My family has a long history with owning Audi cars, a degenerate flywheel isn't something anyone owning a "premium brand' vehicle should be concerned with...y'know?

Anyhoo...

Why was the clutch replaced early? Perhaps this repair job had something to do with dual mass flywheel failing not long after? FWIW seen several 2.7T dual mass flywheel failures.

Just a follow-up... I did replace the flywheel (its in sad shape) and will be pursuing Audi to recover some of the costs incurred (well over $2k). Wish me luck, I'll need all of it...

It was in fact the flywheel causing the vibration and the car runs like a gem now as expected.

Clutch replaced as a precaution.

Cheers,
AK

My 2004 S4 had the problem of vibration starting @ 1800 rpm. Went to Oak. Audi and they couldn't find a problem but whatever they did under "manual transmission" on invoice fixed the problem for a year. Now its back but again, but once and a while I'll start the car and everything is perfect for a week or longer. What could the dealership have done to correct the problem so easily?
