Replace rear bulbs with LED?

Replace rear bulbs with LED?
Sorry for asking a question thats probably been asked a million times, but my searching on Google and speaking to others has only resulted in mixed answers.
I'd just like to know if I can replace the bulbs in my rear lights with LEDs? I see them for sale all over eBay, but I've been told different answers on voltage and errors and this and that...
Does anybody have a straight answer? Can I just get LED lights that will just screw in and replace the stock bulbs?
Thanks very much!

Re: Replace rear bulbs with LED?
It will depend on the bulb actually. LED's usually need a resistor paired with them to keep them from showing the "bulb out" warning and so they flash at the right pace. Some have them integrated, some not. You can also wire in resistors yourself. It 100% depends on what you buy.
