Rear "rattle" noise

Rear "rattle" noise
Hello all,
Maybe someone can help....I have a bit of a banging noise or rattle coming from the rear passenger side - more towards the truck area or near the rear springs.
It's a 2002 A4 3.0 - I had my wife listen for the noise yesterday (lowered the passenger side seat and remove the trunk cover) as I thought the noise was coming from the trunk itself (loose jack or such).
But the noise is coming from under the car....near that part of the vehicle.
I crawled under but everything seems tight - nothing loose that I can see.
It only happens when I hit a bump in the road.....
Springs??
Cheers

Re: Rear "rattle" noise
Rob,
Your question is very vague and it requires someone to really be able to "experience" what you are describing; noises tend to travel inside the car and give very subjective interpretations...
If you have more details, perhaps someone would be able to relate to your experience and share.

Re: Rear "rattle" noise
I cannot really give any further info.....
Best to describe the noise as a two loose pieces of metal - like a clamp that needs tightening.
Only happens when the left rear passenger side tire hits a small imperfection in the road...like a slight bump. No noise on even smooth roads.
I guess a trip to the shop is required.

Re: Rear "rattle" noise
Just thought I would update all on the noise ...
Seems the rear right spring is cracked
Checking around for prices........This sounds expensive.
