i would get the oem parts to remove them. cus the locking mechanism is a bit
convuluted and can esily stick or break any homemade soln. the parts only
cost 4-5$ + shipping from ebay.
i bought mine a few weeks ago.

Not sure on the A6s!
Does yours look like this with the need for 4 tools?

I will assume that you are not the first owner of this Audi.

Re: Radio removal A4
hi and thanks for reply and the download-
my radio looks exactly like that- I have the four keys, but am not getting the release.
I will try again and do the wiggling and such. I just wanted to ensure you do not have to pull apart the dash and behind the radio to get it out. that is what the aftermarket guy wanted to do- so thanks. I will keep trying.

Re: Radio removal A4
here is a solution for ur problem , if this doesnt help contact me
1. Turn on radio. The radio display shows "SAFE".
2. Press the P.Scan and RBDS buttons simultaneously and hold until "1000" shows on the display. Release the buttons. Do NOT press these buttons again, otherwise the radio will consider "1000" to be the code.
3. Use Preset buttons 1 ... 4 to enter the four-digit code number from your radio card. Preset button 1 corresponds to the first digit, Preset button 2 corresponds to the second digit, etc. Each press of the button increments the number by 1.
4. Once the code shown on the display is correct, press the P.Scan and RBDS buttons simultaneously and hold until the word "SAFE" appears in the display, then release the buttons.
5. The radio should unlock and be usable shortly afterwards.
6. If an incorrect code is entered, the word "SAFE" appears, first flashing and then continuously. You can repeat the above steps to unlock the radio once more, the number of attempts will be shown in the display. If an incorrect code is entered again, you radio will be locked for about one hour. After one hour - the radio must stay on and the key must remain in the ignition lock - if the display goes out, the you can repeat the above procedure to unlock again. The cycle - two attempts, one hour lock-up - still applies.
7. If you lose your radio code, contact your Audi dealer.

Re: Radio removal A4
HI and thanks.
I contacted an audi dealer and had them send me the instructions to unlock the radio- the interesting part was that one has to wait one hour with the key in the ignition and the radio on- after one hour the radio light shuts off and then you can proceed with the unlocking procedure- that worked! If one does not wait the hour then the unlocking prodedure will not work- perhaps this will help someone else.
the good new is I do not have to buy an aftermarket unit.
thanks for your help-much appreciated.

Re: Radio removal A4
congrats!!!
I thought you only needed to do that "unlocking" procedure when you have
entered that radio code incorrectly too many times which locks your radio.
