Therefore, I'll stick with x2 oil changes per year, despite what you say and what is specified by Audi.

Secondly, I just received a supplement letter from Audi Canada. They write, all 2000-2003 A4 and TT models should have their timing belts inspected due to timing belt failure prior to what is specified in the maintenance booklet (167000km). It goes on to inform me to take it to my dealership so they can preform a free-of-charge inspection over this matter.

Case in point; even Audi gets it wrong sometimes.
I agree but at the same time I change my Oil every 8000km's, what sucks is that audi says one thing but really deep down insed they know it is wrong and these numbers vary from dealer to dealer as far as I heard, I contacted my dealer and asked them weather or not the recommended time interval was too long and they stated that it wasnt, but I think it is just another way to make more and more money for the dealer. When I bought my Audi I thought that 16000km's was insane because I was used to changing it every 4000km's

I have always put 94 octane in my car and nothing less

I've never really gone looking for 94 octane, where do you find it? I've seen it once, at a Petro-Can in Vancouver... Never in Calgary...

Adding a somewhat dissenting point of view here - I double checked the owners manual of my 2003 1.8t and it states that while a minimum of 91 octane is reccomended running anything that is 88? (sorry don't have the manual with me at the moment but it's saying regular gas) or higher will not damage the engine but will result in reduced performance. My understanding is that the engine computer will change the timing to eliminate any knock but the downfall will be the loss in performance. I'm not a mechanic, so if there is one out there please feel free to enlighten!

Try Chevron, they have 92 and 94 Octane available at most if not all their stations.

That is correct, the computer will make up and adjust the timing.. Which will reduce performance.. but i wouldnt go lower then 90 mohawk... i run that all the time... plus im not even boosting so i guess its ok for now..

Thanks, but I live in Calgary, and I haven't seen any Chevron's here. Saw the 94 at a petro can in van when we were on holidays....

Cheers!

Yeah Chevron's disappeared shortly after I moved here just shy of 10 years ago. Only place in Calgary aside from the occasional Race Trak Gas to get higher than 91 is Husky. I use the 94 in my Mustang and it runs pretty well in there, but my wife's Jetta 2.5 hates Husky/Mohawk gas.
