Default NO heat! 2004 Audi A4 1.8TQ

Today while driving to work I noticed that when I set my heat on Auto 22 degrees it was on full blast and blowing out cold air, which I thought was so weird because it usually is on minimum until it's warm. I was driving for about 15 minutes and the entire time it was blowing out cold air on full blast. No matter what setting I put it on (econ, hottest setting, coldest setting, manual heat control) it blows out the same temperature air. I noticed that when I was moving the air got warmer a few degrees but it was still cold, but when I was stopped it got VERY cold.

What is my problem and how much would it cost to fix? If I'm missing any information let me know, I'm just in a hurry to leave right now. Thanks.

PS. I also noticed that in the summer when it's 25+ degrees that my AC is terrible and won't blow out cold air unless I'm moving. If I'm at a full stop I'm baking in the car.

There may be DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) logged for the HVAC module so that would be one starting point. I have the VCDS cable and can run a scan for you if you want (PM me).

If it wasn't blowing cold during the summer, then it's possible refrigerant is low or the AC compressor has failed. Again DTC is the key.

in most cases no heat is a coolant problem. You most likely have a coolant leak somewhere which has caused air to get into the heater core.

Find your coolant leak, get it fixed, get the system flushed, and your heat will be back to normal.

Heating systems are very simple compared to air con.

after seeing your coolant issue thread that is the cause of your heat problems. Get that resolved and you'll be fine.

Thanks rob!
I brought it into a mechanic for a pressure test and they found no leak =[. I just topped up my coolant last month and it's low again.
