Default Import Concerns: DRL and Central Locks

i just imported a car from california, and have made the necessary mods to enable DRL. unfortunately, this causes my dash and navigation to light up as though the headlight switch was on, often causing me to forget to turn my lights on at night (because everything is lit, i assume lights are already on!) is there a way to prevent this from happening? perhaps a 'canadian' relay to replace somewhere?

also, by enabling "locking via speed" and coding my cluster for canadian use, i have lost the ability to use the central unlock button, and i also get a "unable to de-safe" code when using vag-com. i've searched endlessly for a fix, but threads seem to go nowhere. does anybody know if i buy a canadian cluster and swap it if this problem will go away? thanks!

It sounds like your coding is wrong. Who did it for you with the vag-com? Did you do it yourself? The coding seems to be off, as you probably removed some items by entering the wrong number. Post a scan on here

Mind if I ask why you imported from the US? Assuming it's an A4, they're a dime a dozen here in Canada.

There is still some amazing deals to be had in the US, plus the market down there is flooded with them lately.

getting back to the issue at hand...

it was me who coded the instrument cluster and DRL straight of ross techs website. its getting its out of province inspection done today, else i'd pull the coding and post it here. apparently im not the only person with this issue so its likely that ill just do a cluster swap and see if that solves the problem. having saved roughly $5K by buying south of the border (and had a fantastic road trip bringing it home on my reading break), another couple hundred on a new cluster isn't going to be the end of me. for the time being ill post the coding for any thoughts.

Cluster change won't make a difference. I have a B6 & a B7. B7 DRL doesn't turn on other lights; B6 DRL does; it's all in the way Audi implemented the fogs as DRLs for the B6. There are some needle/scale settings you could try adjusting but I haven't bothered. It's pretty obvious to me when my Xenons aren't turned on - there's a very distinctive light cutoff pattern that doesn't show on the road or the vehicle in front. You might also want to consider the Auto position for the headlight switch but maybe that wasn't on the 2003 models.

Post your cluster and central convenience coding and I should be able to tell what your settings are affecting as I have adjusted both my cars.

thanks for your input. i actually spoke to an audi tech and he pretty much said the same thing. another alternative would be to simply hardwire the DRL and change my central electronics to another country (like the USA) that doesn't have DRL... but who wants the hassel.

as for the automatic headlight switch, i don't think my car has the option.. although it sounds really sweet! looks like im just going to have to ! haha. the xenons definately make the difference - im becoming much more prudent in watching for my beam pattern just to double check.
