Arrow I'm new to AUDI, I've got few questions...

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a 2004 A4 1.8T FWD and I have a few neewbie questions...

First of all, I need to order some rims and tires for summer asap. Currently the car is running on 16" factory rims and the ride is quite comfortable. I'm thinking about buying some Moda MD7 18x8 rims with 245-40ZR18 tires. I know it should be 235-40 but I like the look of wide tires and I'm hoping that the extra 5mm on each side isn't gonna make them rub... Anyone here runs on 245s ???

The other thing I wonder about is "Are all automatic 1.8T that freaking slow" ???
I think I should have mine checked out because I'm worried I could get left in the dust by a freakin' 84 Chevette...

I'm also looking to plug-in my iPhone to the car audio system (Concert version) only to play music, I don't care about controling trough the car buttons... A simple AUX line-in would do for my needs...

I'm sure all these things have been brought up in many other posts but somehow I can't find any clear awnsers...

Thanks for your help and input, I'm looking forward to enjoying my new ride...

Also, does anyone have a picture of what an A4 (B6 2004) looks like on 18" rims with the stock suspension? Does it look ok or more like a tractor?

riding on the stock 16 inch rims is not why the ride is uncomfortable... new tires and new rims wont help. Do you have sport suspension or the stock suspension (does your car have massive wheel gap or not much wheel gap, not much meaning you can only fit 1 or 2 fingers in the back and front). If you have the stock suspension then theres not much to complain about as the sport is a harsher ride.

Yes all auto 1.8t's are slow... should have got manual (feels quicker at least). Its a 170hp car thats pretty heavy to begin with, its not really meant to be really fast.

Get this for your iphone or iphone, I have it and it works great. IPOD

EDIT: Realize now that of course you have the stock suspension if you have 16 inch rims and realize that you said the ride is COMFORTABLE not uncomfortable haha, sorry.

If your going to get rims get a drop as well or it won't look right. Lowering your car will make it look a hundred times better.

Lowering my M3 was the worst thing I have ever done, so i'm trying to avoid lowering this car...

Because it was getting to expensive to insure, run and maintain... Not to mention the need for a winter car... It was just not making sense to me anymore.

So since lowering the A4 is not an option I guess I'll have to stick with 16 inchers
But comfort over looks I guess...

To be fair, lets compare apples to apples. The M3 ws already tuned for maximum handling as a track car for the road. Thats the point of the M3. The A4 is not. It's an entry level sport sedan and would benefit from say a set of Eibach sport springs. Larger wheels on stock suspension looks tacky and generally carries the 4x4 look.

I understand that, but with the roads being the way they are here in Montreal, a lowered suspension would most likely means a VERY bumpy ride. Not to mention frequent repairs.

I think in your case (if you don't want to lower the car) I would go with 17's...won't look as bad and 4x4 even on stock suspension and mitigates the risk of bending wheels and other damage from potholes.

As for the slowness, thats pretty par for the course. The car is a great winter and luxury car but isn't a track star by any stretch. You can fix that with getting a chip and upgrading the turbo if you'd like but i'm not sure how much modding you're wanting to do.

Lastly, welcome to the forums!
