I hate this noise
90000km 2004 audi a4 quattro
I have problem...although I don't know how serious it is, but here's description
I drive...
on a plain very smooth asphalt... I do not hear anything
I drive...
in downtown area with lots of road cracks and potholes...
I hear something metal clapping each other...
may be the noise is from the belly pan part that got loose
BUT!!!
When Im pressing brake, I don hear anything (good)
even in the shitty road or good road
when I brake, I don't hear that metal clapping unplesant sound.
What's wrong?
anyone?
I would like to know and this has been almost like 2~3 month.
I couldn't hear, because the weather was too cold and shut my windows all the time.
let me know if anyone experienced this noise
could it be control arm? cv?....

Re: I hate this noise
Check the metal shield that's on the inside of the brake rotor area for clearance/looseness. It may have got bent from snow/ice over the winter. You might not hear it when braking becasue everythings flexes and tightens up but on a bumpy road it's free to rattle around.

Re: I hate this noise
my bet would be on the control arms. B6's are prone to have them go. I jsut replaced mine not to long ago. The whole 13 piece kit was only 699...the dealership wanted 1300 for only 4 of them....and we have 8 plus tierods by the way.

Re: I hate this noise
I had very similar problem as you described on mine. It turned out to be one brake pad had too much play in its 'seat' and used to 'jump' around and rattle on any little bump.
Don't know if you have the same problem but it's worth a try. The fact that you say when you press the brake noise goes away suggest brakes issue.

you are right about it
I took it to IT and itz the pad...
damn I thought it was something real serious...
but anyway something serious just came... timingbelts and water pumps...
damn...
but itz all good.
I wonder this car has been touched (in terms of the clock), because It only ran about 90000km and I have to do the timing belts and water pumps.
anyone have find this unusual?
Thanks slaven and others for helping me out here
