High performance all-seasons

Re: High performance all-seasons
In snowy conditions on the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler, the RCMP are turning around cars with all season tires, unless they mount chains. I wonder why they do that if all seasons are OK?

All Seasons are a total compromise. They're okay, in the winter, they're okay in the summer.... Maybe we should just all buy Toyota Corolla's because they're okay cars.
However, I drive an Audi and I want the best out of it at all times so it's winter tires for the winter, and high performance summer tires for the rest of the year.
Winter tires increase your handling in the snow and greatly reduce your stopping distances. I have my 4 year old in the car on a regular basis.... I just can't afford to cheap out and go all season.

Don't you mean they suck in the winter and they suck in the summer? They should be called no season. The only time they're good is between seasons.. ie: when summer tires suck because it's not warm enough but you feel like you're wasting winter tires because it's not cold enough.

X2 on the winter tires giving you better handling, traction and stopping!
I have plenty of stories of close shaves using A/S tires.
I live in the snow belt and swear by snow tires.
Michelin Xice on cheap steel rims, plus quattro gives me sure footed driving and the best opportunity for control in shitty conditions!
Of course you adjust your driving during winter, but unfortunately they don't take the idiots off the road.
My 2 cents, for the added control and safety, it has to be worth the price!
