Help with my 2005 A4 1.8T Tiptronic Transmission
Hi, I have 2005 B6 A4 Quattro, 273,000 KM bought used and have no service history available. A cpl of mths ago I began having a clunking/jerking motion on the car when slowing down always happening around the 60 KPH mark. I always drive in D mode btw....anyways, 1 night, when I parked the car, my entire engine rocked and I feared the worst and quickly took it to my closest shop ( Midas ). They checked and found a broken right front axle, which was blamed for the cause of my tranny problem and had it replaced. It drove smooth for the next cpl of mths until last week, and now the same problem is happening again. I took my car to an audi specialist and was told the tranny oil is burnt, however he advises against doing a tranny service as it could make things worse. I called Audi dealer and was told the same thing, tranny is lifetime fluid, sealed unit NOT supposed to be serviced. I'm confused, if you never service it, how do you keep driving with burnt fluid? wiill this not cause more problems for tranny? Sorry for the long-winded write up, but any advice is greatly appreciated. This is by far the best car I've ever driven in my 50 yrs on this earth, and would love to keep it problem free.

Forget what they say, I recently just replaced the tranny fluid for 2 B6s that were tiptronic and they are both fine, I also replaced the transmission filter as well. One of them, an 05 like yours had a jerking problem from 1st to 2nd and since changing the fluid and driving a couple thousand kms, the jerking has been reduced dramatically and it's only under low load that it is pronounced.
For what it's worth, I ordered the transmission filter kit from Audi and picked up Mobil 1 synthetic ATF as it met the standard for fluid put out by VW.

Thanks Daonhathai, I'm seriously thinking of going that route....Just have this nagging doubt/fear in the back of my mind about what the mech said could probably happen, and that I'll either need a new tranny after or scrap the car.
