Default Funny noise while turning

hey guys,

I have a 2002 audi a4 1.8t Quattro, when I start driving from rest (0 km/hr) and turning, it makes a funny loud noise, sounds like a piece of paper in your bicycle wheel, and i have been looking online for sollutions. I was convined that it was the lack of power steering fluid but its full to the top and I havent found any leaks. My friend and I were driving in circles in the parking lot and i found out what it was. the drivers side radiator fan was unballenced, meaning, when it wasn't spinning, it was loose. Once he going going, the fan kicked in and it would spin just fine. If your hearing funny noises while turning, also check if there is some play in any of the fans located on the engine side of the radiator. I will post DIY instructions when I find time to fix it.

Thanks

ok so i figured out how to do it. its a 2 man job. first thing, take off skid plate, then remove bolts on the cross member holding the lights, rad, and fan. there should be 12 bolts, hex head. remove the lights and remove the air intake plastic cover. then remove all bolts holding fan assembly. have one guy pulling with all his weight on the cross member while other guy removes fan assembly, oh and theres a silver box with cooling fins RIGHT on top of the fan, remove that and cut some plastic ties that link to the silver box. you dont have to remove the rad hose, the fan will be in the way, simply lift the left side first, sorta like a driveway barrier (cantilever style) . it can be done! it is a pain in the ***! dont give up! save yourself hundreds of dollers, do it yourself.
