Engine & EPC Light

Engine & EPC Light
hi everyone...i'm new to the forum and also a new audi owner. I purchased an 05 1.8T with 64K a few weeks ago but last night while driving home the engine and epc light went on. I haven't noticed any performance decreases but am not sure what is causing this.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Re: Engine & EPC Light
I believe EPC is (electronic power control?) correct me if i'm wrong.
It means theres something wrong with one of your electrical systems, needs to be scanned (vag-com'd)
could be a faulty sensor, bad abs sensor, could be your auto leveling motor is fried or something... have it scanned..
peace

Yeah you really will have to take it in and see what the dealership says. Some people of course will be able to hook it up to their own gear, but I don't do that kind of thing, so get it taken in.

Re: Engine & EPC Light
i brough it to audi and they said it was due to a MAF sensor failure. It will be fixed on Friday through the warranty.
I'm not sure what a MAF sensor is but apparently it has something to do with air flow. I recently had my air filter and cabin filter changed by Mr. Lube....do you guys think that Mr. Lube did something wrong?

Re: Engine & EPC Light
nah... Maf sensors do fail occasionally.
They contain Very Sensitive resistors (transducers essentially) they heat up and as air flows by and cools, the resistors very sensitive resistance fluctuates and sends the signal to the ECU telling it how much its flowing.

Re: Engine & EPC Light
You're fairly lucky, there has been no side effects, as MAF failure often causes, hesitation, misfiring or just the complete shutdown of the engine in some cases...

Re: Engine & EPC Light
Good evening. I have a 2001 S4 which had the ABS and EPC light come on along with a symbol which is shaped like a triangle. The check engine light came on later--after I drove it for about 1 week. I didn't think anything of it until my car lost total power going up a steep hill. I took the car in to the dealer and he told me it was probably the "throttle body" which costs $1100 to fix. He reset the computer, hoping it would fix the problem but the lights have come on again. So, if he is right, that is what your problem is. However I would love to know if there is a way to fix the problem less expensively.

I had the same problem as you... and it did turn out to be the throttle body as well.
I would definitely try to get a second opinion though... and shop around at independent shops (make sure you do your research on these shops though, to make sure they're reliable... sorry can't give you any input on the shops in your area, cuz you're in Colorado). Dealership shops usually tend to have steeper prices.

Re: Engine & EPC Light
Close enough. MAF's measure flow, density and temp of the incoming air. Later B5's and up also have a MAP sensor so if the MAF fails, your car will still run.
