Default Electrical problem in driver's door - Very specific!

Hi guys,

I'd like to have your input on that one

On the driver door, the window doesn't function. The electronic door lock doesn't work either. The lights on the low end of the door either. So to lock the car, I have to use the remote for the 3 other doors, and the key for the driver's door.

BUT ! The controls for the other windows works well in this door.

I've unmounted the door's interior and I am willing to do some tests.

The car is an A4 2002 Quattro 1.8T

Unfortunately, I don't have the service manual for it. I suspect the big piece of hardware we see when the door panel is removed.

Please share your ideas

Do the interior lights or the speedo time mileage displays light up or not when you open the driver door?

Most common failure parts for this type of issue is the door latch or wire harness broken at hinge point.

I think that yes, when I open the door, the main light in the car lights up. So this is a synthesis :

- Door do not lock & unlock with remote
- Door window doesn't go up & down
- Other windows CAN be controlled by the door's switch
- When door is opened, roof light goes ON
- When door is opened, lights (2 or 3) DOES NOT goes ON
- Electrical miror control works for both mirors

Damn it's bad, summer's hot with window stuck

Does a complete vehicle VAG Scan report anything?

What can I do in the meantime?

I don't see many other options than brining the car to Audi...

Audi will scan the car then proceed to diagnose depending if there DTC's. If no DTC's are present then again it could be door latch or wiring harness breaks.

In the mean time you could check all fuses and inspect the wires in the harness at the driver door hinge for cracks / breaks. You could check all connectors inside the door to ensure they are seated.

When entering the vehicle, do the cluster mileage and clock displays light up when you open driver's door?

Suggest check for broken wires at door hing point and check for corrosion inside door electrical connectors.

If above is all good then the driver's door latch has likely failed.

Good Luck
