Default Do they trying to rip me off from their service?

Recently, my 2003 A4 1.8T quatto auto engin check light is on, and I brying my car to one of local shop in vancouver, please give me some advice on the problem and the price they give me.

Since last service, the car has been drove for 5200 km.

Here are the following problems I identified on the car.

1. Engine’s sound is a little bit louder than normal and vibrates a little bit harder than normal.

2. The dashboard gear indicator doesn't indicate driving gear when I change from “P” to “D”. (But the indicator shows correctly when I park and backing up)

I paid 120 to let them take a look at the problem, and here are the diagnoses.

1. Temperature reading too low. (Thermostat needs to replace, and it is one of reason that cost the engine check light on)
2. Service need to be done.
3. Triptronice switch need to be replaced.

Price as follow
1. Need engine lamps sensor, Thermostat replace $580
2. Replace Triptronice switch (they said I need the whole kit, only part need $750) total $1029
3. tune up service, oil service $ 413 + $145
4. Need new calais oil filter. $108
5. Motor mounts $1058

I need some advice, because the bill is kind of to fix all the problems.
Thank you for any advice.( and sorry about my English)
Ken

Difficult tell over the net what work is really needed. Was this estimate from an Audi dealer? Being in Vancouver, 2 independents you might want to check with are Blitzkeig Autowerks (near Main & 1st in Vancouver) and Esplanade Auto House (on Mountain Highway in North Vancouver). Had work done by them in the past and been happy with service and price.

was that at the dealership? those prices are rediculous, if your have tools and want to try it yourself the thermostat is about $110 online and can be installed yourself rather easily if you check the how tos, a tune up is just spark plugs and an oil change which is about $100 if you do it your self, and theres a how to to check the magnets for the shifter to fix the range selector as well for free

I didn't bring the car to the dealership, it is a independent store around Marine drive and Oaks street. So, base on what you guys said, I definitely would not bring the car back to the same place.
By the way, SEANF, do you have the link for fixing the magnet for shifter range selector? I really wants to take a look at it. because the indicator sometime works, and sometime it doesn't.
Thank you for all your advice.

heres the link for the shifter fix if that is indeed your the cause of your problem, it could also be the range selector on the side of the transmission
