You can... But you don't really want to. You will save money short-term, but it's going to cost you long-term. The car will run better and longer with 91. Also, 91 will give you a little better gas mileage

You can always fill on 87!
But that too will cost you in reliability and longevity, and over the course of 10years you would have saved $2,000 to $3,000... however the engine and/or turbo repairs, I can guarantee you, to be more than that!

If you have a turbo then I would say definitely don't cheap out. The car will retard timing to prevent pinging. You drive a premium car, put premium gas in it.
Even if you don't have a turbo premium would be ideal however a tank or two of mid grade isn't going to hurt it, I just avoid the lower grades due to the higher ethanol content nowadays.

Re: Do i really need to use 91 octane Gasoline
I don't mean to hijack this thread. But, I got a 2002 Audi A6 2.7l Turbo and one of the gas stations here is offering E-85 for only $2.05, which is way cheaper that $3.74 per gallon. Do you think that my car could use E-85?
My girlfriend fills her up half E-85 and half 87 and she has a Ford Explorer. That's why I was wondering. Also, what will this do to my engine?
Thanks

I agree with 91. Ethanol is a huge mistake that will cost us all dearly. Ethanol is probably the most ridiculous invention ever for a number of reasons.

i agree with bottomnote on ethanol being the worst invention ever.. the person who came up with the idea should be shot (thats my personal opinion)
as far as 91 is concerned, use nothing but 91 in your car, if you cant afford it then just sell audi and get a VW. it will hurt your turbo big time if you use 87. The end result would be paying all that savings plus much more to fix the problem
