Default Did I blow my clutch or maybe just the clutch cylinder?

Today I tried to shift into second at hight revs. Something cluncked and my clutch got really loose. It was still drivable and the shifts were rough but I made it home. I tried to drive around the block and eventually got stuck in first.

Now my clutch petal feels really loose. I can hold it down all the way to start the vehicle but I cannot lock into any gear via the manual shifter and petal. I can get it to pop into 3rd with the correct revs and eventually stall and I do hear some spinning. Also when it is not running I can play through and lock into all the gears.

How do I know if it is a problem with the clutch petal, clutch master or slave cylinder, or the entire clutch needs to be replaced. I am scared of taking it to a mechanic and have them diagnose in their favor.

I checked the brake fluid and it is fine. No leaks.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

does you clutch feel loose and feel like it vibrates more then normal, if so its the whole clutch.
Do you have to turn of you car to put it in first or really force it in to got there, if so, its the whole clutch.
Could be also your pressure plate but you have to take it apart and see. Most of the time might as well change the whole thing. its a lot of labour money to do it, so most of the time, even if its something like a pressure plate, look at your clutch and the wear on it, might be worth changing entire thing.
Also does you ride, when in gear rev but not go anywhere. Thats called slipping clutch, also need to change the whole thing in that case.

Doesn't sound like a slipping clutch to me, if that was the case it would affect actually getting the car into gear, just it wouldn't hold so you wouldn't go anywhere...at least not fast, lol.

It sounds to my like the clutch isn't engaging/disengaging properly, so either something like a clutch cable, or pressure plate or something, but then I'm not transmission expert...

Thanks for the reply.
Clutch pedal was vibrating at first but now is just loose.
I can play through the gears with the engine off.
As soon as it is started I cannot even slam into a gear.

Is there any way to drive it if I push start, match revs or something without further damaging the system.

If not do I need to do anything before towing? Being AWD do I need a flat bed?

Dont play with transmition, it sounds like a clutch issue, but hey im not there so i could be wrong. Get a flat bed, thats the only way to transport AWD. Dont listen to CAA tell them you need flat bed...period. THey are ****ing retarded. when i got into an accident with my old wrx, i told them it was awd, idiots send be a regualr tow and the guy that was towing it is like " oh dont worry it would be fine...... (the car was alreaddy totalled, i knew its a gonner btw lol) But he was all seroious and when we are driving my car was dragging, and the tower kept asking me if i had a skirt package on or huge exaust or something.

sorry about my rant get a flat bed and get it to a shop where they know about transmission. Dont drive it!!!!! you risk of destroying your tranny if it isnt just a clutch issue.

Push starting is a bad idea, don't drive it either.

Get a flatbed tow or one of those AWD tows with a dolly on the back and get it to a shop that can fix the issue. It sounds like it could be trouble from the slave/master cylinder from your description but no way to know for sure without checking it out properly.

I did speak to a few mechanics over the weekend.

Of course the Stealership is trying to say 4- 5 K for the clutch?

Had another mechanic tell me it sounds like the pressure plate or master cylinder. He said if it was the clutch I would not be able to drive in any gear after a push it would just slip out of gears. I would rather not wreck the gearbox so I will be getting a flat-bed

Sucks now I need a flatbed and a clutch perhaps.
1500$ I don't have

I paid 1200 down here for the clutch and labour. And thats not true the clutch thats ****ed could still drive. I drove for a week with a clutch that my mechanic deemed gone...
well my top speed was 70 km/hr that took about, at 10% throttle, and max rpms of slightly less then 2300

after a week of this i decided to go and do my clutch job.

The clutch wouldn't JUST slip out of gears, it still works but just slips like crazy

I agree but I can lock into any gear without the car on and then pushstart and the gear is fine after jumping to a start.
There is no slipping out just the clutch pedal does nothing, so no easing into the gear, and I actually cannot get into any gear with it running. The pedal has no hydraulic feel or give. Very loose.

I assume there is just a switch that senses it down to allow me to start the vehicle since you need it depressed fully just like any standard to fire it up.

I have heard so many bad stories about mechanics that just adjust the tension on a cabled clutch and charge you for the entire clutch job.
I would really like to have all my facts straight so I don't get ripped off. i would honestly ask for pics of the parts coming off my vehicle and the old parts.

I found a write up on the other forum explaining how to change the engagement point of the clutch pedal by lengthening or spacing the master cylinder.

I may get her up on some ramps today and see if I can get in there without damaging anything.
