cross country drive prep
Hey all, I'll be doing the cross country drive from NYC to LA, about 3,000 miles probably 5 days of driving with detours and stops . Wanted to see what preparation I should do for the drive. I don't have any trouble codes (knock on wood.) I just put on new tires and the Bosch Aeroblade wiper system. I have a 2002 A4 Avant Quattro 3.0 V6 with 72,000mi. I have not done the timing belt yet, but I hear that's due at 80k.
Any parts and service recommendations/advice before I go?
Also, I'll have the back seat folded down with a lot of stuff on it, I noticed the seatbelt latches kind of poke into the seat backs and stretch the leather, anyone found a good way to protect the seats from this?
Thanks

Re: cross country drive prep
Timing belts and possibly an oil change (depending how long since the last one) are all i see as necessary. Yes the belts aren't due til 80k miles, but don't leave it to the wire and ruin your trip by having something major like that let go on the road. Other than that, hit the road and enjoy the scenery!!! The stretch from Denver to I-15 is my favorite part!!
