Coolant Light 2004 A4 1.8TQ Auto

Re: Coolant Light 2004 A4 1.8TQ Auto
Well today when I started my car to go to work the coolant light came on again. About a month ago I added 500ml G12 and 500ml distilled water to the resevoir and it was filled between min and max. So I guess I have a leak, how much would this repair cost generally?

Without knowing where the leak is it would be tough to guess how much the cost of the repair might be. If you check all the usual spots for leaks, just behind the valve cover at the back of the engine, hoses and senders that are attached to the hoses, radiator, water pump, head gasket. If you don't know much about mechanics you are pretty well hooped. Do you know anyone who is had a mechanical background that could take a look at it or would you have to take it to a garage? Some of the fixes are pretty simple and others are probably not so much. A simple pressure test may produce results on where the leak is, but taking it to dealer will probably be quite costly.

The most common leak on these cars is the "rear coolant flange". Take a small mirror and put it down beside the left side of the engine towards the back and look around for hard pink stuff dried up anywhere down behind it. You can also look for any dripping at the rear there. The flange is directly behind the engine.
They fail on every one of the b6s at some point.
its about $300 to fix.

Maybe it was low for a while but airlocks.....possible.......anyway you have probably topped it up again and you will have to wait to see what happens. Definetly must be a leak if it continues, but a mystery at this time!!!

Yah I topped it up again and the heat issue has been resolved but I'm still quite worried that I filled 1L of liquid and it just evaporated within a month. I will update on this situation if something happens or not.
Thanks for all the replies!

Well another thing that it could be is the cap itself. I believe that if it is cracked or not sealing somehow you could be losing the coolant through that. I have not had the problem myself so not sure, but if anyone else could enlighten the OP on that problem just maybe that is what it is.
