Default Clunk sound on braking

hey guys,

I have a 2002 audi a4, when i brake sharply or sometimes even when i brake smoothly there is a clunking type sound. Any clues as to what this might be?

Just trying to get a line-up of possibilities so i can go through the process of elimination.

Cheers

what does this tell us? That you have a clunking noise under breaking...well from where?

Suspension?Breaks?Sunroof?rims?Engine? What side of the car? What does it sound like (metal on metal) Does it make noise over small bumps in the road? Does it do it at high speeds?Low Speeds? Aftermaket suspension?

you need to be more specific about what is happen otherwise a clunk noise could be anything.

Sway bar links? Struts? Break Calipers?

I'm having the same issue. The noise (on my 2003 A4 Avant 1.8t) seems to be coming from the front right wheel area, and like mentioned above it happens when I brake hard, and when I'm easy on the pedal.

any tips are appreciated

do u have aftermarket brake pads? had the same exact problem, turns out my aftermarket brake pads were clicking against the caliper when i braked.. the pads have little "hooks" on the sides of em that hook up against the caliper...i wrapped em in electrical tape and havent had a problem since.

thanks crono_87. it does have some aftermarket pads on it, so this might be the case. I'll be pulling the wheels this week to take a look see.
