Default Air conditioning on my audi

hey guys. So my air conditioning on my Audi a4, works, but its very light breeze. ITs not like an air conditioner should be like. ITs not pumping full cold air. So what is involved in recharching the air conditioner? I would reallly like to do it ASAP. Im tired of feeling a light breeze on a hot day. Let me know guys

If all your getting is a light breeze than it might not be the A/C system but the fan speed. If you can place a thermometer in one of the vents and measure the discharge temperature. If its say 50 deg F or there abouts you most likely do not have an A/C problem. If the temperature is higher than you have a leak somewhere in the system. The A/C system is like the one in your house in that it is a closed system and refrigerant doesn't leak out. If you lost refrigerant you need to find and fix the leak first.

Go to an automotive licenced refrigeration mechanic and have him do a diagnostic. That should be in around the $50 - $75 mark. Than you have a base to start with.

Could it be the ECON button is on?...sounds dumb, but my gf has gotten in my car and complained the a/c wasn't strong enough then when I look to see why, I noticed the ECON button on.

hmm that could possibly be it?? Where is this ECON button located and what does it look like? IMO the ac shouldn't be weak the car has only got 46 000 miles or 75 000 km's

On the driver side HVAC controls...snapped a pic for you..make sure that button is not lit up, btw ECON stands for economy(for those who don't know), meaning the ECU limits the fan speed and coldness(can't think of the proper word relating to temperature)

This is a pic of a B7 A4 so not sure that OP will have the same setup since this is the B6 forum.
ECON disables the A/C compressor. Leave ECON off (not lit) if you either want cold air in the summer or to defrost the windshield in the winter.

B6 has a different button where the B7 "OFF" is... can't remember what it is, but it is definitely a different button/function.

My 2005 B6 3.0 has an identical console as my 2008 B7 i.e. has an OFF button. Don't know when in the B6 model series, they made the change to the console.

I think there was a change in '04 (not sure if that's calendar year or MY)... since the models after that period require the newer "B7" climate control (with the off button). These also separate the rear-defogger relay from the CC unit (it was all-in-one on the early B6's).
