2004 A4 will not start or turn over!!!
I all
So today I took my car for a ride to get some bike parts about 1.5hrs away from home, and the only issue I had during the drive was that the Electronic Stabilization program (ESP) light came on a couple times.
Well I got back into town and went over to a friends house, I was there for about 2hrs and when I came out to leave I turn the keep pushed in the clutch, and nothing happened.
My car is a 2004 A4 1.8T 6speed
The cluster displayed to push in clutch to start engine, although nothing happen when I did. I did not hear the starter trying to turn over. All I heard was a very faint click in the front left corner.
The lights all worked, radio all that. Car unlocked and locked properly. Just nothing is happening.
I scanned the net for info, I took off the bottom panel under the steering wheel to make sure the clutch sensor clips were connected all the way, and they were.
Can anyone shed some light on me, my car is stuck at my buddies till I tow it.
Thanks
I noticed some type of static sound coming from this unit. Not sure what it is?

Re: 2004 A4 will not start or turno over!!!
I did try to boost it!!!
Update:
So my buddy came over with his OBD II reader plugged it in ran the scan....it just came up error on his machine.....we try it. Nothing! Then he runs it again....same thing. He holds the erase key just in case, comes up error again.
I lift the hood, try to see if I can visually spot the starter, which seems to be impossible. I take it you need to see it from underneath.
So I take off the tray to the battery, look around press down the metal tab thats on the negative side. and one thing I notice is my plastic tray on over the battery must be snapped or something because I could not get it to click in properly.
Anyhow, my buddies like "try to start it, I want to hear the sound it makes"
So I hope in, go to start it and BAM!!!! It starts. I leave it running for a like 2 minutes. Then turn it off and back on, and it starts again!.....So weird.
Only thing that sucked is my ESP light was still on. So I take if for a spin around the block, everything seems fine, about 2min into the drive the ESP light shuts off.
Come home park it. Scratch my head.
I'm confused.

Re: 2004 A4 will not start or turno over!!!
That sounds familiar to me. I have had some issues like that with other vehicles when the battery connection is not clean or there is not a good contact. I have a Chevy truck and one day just driving and all of a sudden the truck did not want to shift up past 2nd gear, my ABS would activate with the slightest pressure of the breaks, all warning lights light. I did not know what was going on, but I got it home. Called my buddy who works the local GM dealership and he told me to check the battery contacts. Behold the ground was loose, just enough to wiggle around. Cleaned it and tightened it up, problem fixed. Similar thing happen to my Brother's Buick after he had it serviced.

Well boosting a battery will not correct the physical connections from the battery to the car's electrical systems. That is where my problems originated. Vehicle still ran because there was a connection, but a poor one. ECU's and other electronics do not like fluctuating or low amps.
But of course it could be something else as well, but it never hurts give an idea.
