2004 A4 "IVant" Upgrades!
Hey fellow audi drivers,
I am new to this forum and just wanted to hear some professional input.
My Car:
Stock
2004 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T Multitronic CVT
175,000kms
My story, i bought my Audi almost 2 years ago and so far didnt have any big
problems really, well yeah except a $2100 faulty TCU that i had to replace.
other than that i have loved my car and its been treating me just great!!!.
Great drivability, great economy, its just a great car!!.
now what i want to know is
is it safe to upgrade to a stage 4 turbo kit,
and where can i get a good exhaust system for my car?
any input would be greatly appreciated!
dan

Re: 2004 A4 "IVant" Upgrades!
First off, welcome. Secondly, I may be incorrect but I don't think there is anyway you can run that much power on a CVT transmission nor the standard automatic tranny. Many guys upgrade the manual tranny when they go stage 4.
Are you sure you have a CVT or a tiptronic auto tranny? Because I thought they didn't make CVT Avants in NA. Again, I could be mistaken.
I installed a Milltek exhaust on mine and am really happy with it. There are a few choices like APR, Neuspeed, AWE, Magnaflow which are all less expensive but I went with the Milltek because I wanted to minimize the amount of cabin drone but still get a nice sound with better flow.

on the other hand i was thinking of trying to either get a 2001 A4 1.8T and upgrading it or trying to aquire a 2001 s4 both in a manual tranny.
could you tell me how much it cost you for the exhaust system and any other tips you might have.
thanks

Re: 2004 A4 "IVant" Upgrades!
Advice duelly noted, but do you guys have any other suggestions how i can increase my
Audi's performance without destroying its engine and tranny?
ive heard that if you take the catalyc converter off then that would raise horsepower by about 25-30 hp, not sure if that is true though.

Re: 2004 A4 "IVant" Upgrades!
software with or without larger injectors
aftermarket downpipe (with or without exhaust)
Lightweight wheels - this provides more benefit than most realize (improved handling, ride as well as acceleration)
Not sure where you're located but Independant Tuning in T.O. is Milltek vendor and is an awesome shop to work with.
Cheers !

@ stevelev
one of the upgrades i was going to do this year was upgrading to 18" lightweight Audi R8 style rims with low profile tires so that should help as you have mentioned already.
ill check out Independent Tuning but because i am from manitoba i would rather see if i can find someone closer but thanks anyways.

Re: 2004 A4 "IVant" Upgrades!
I dont have an avant, but I do have an 03 1.8T with the CVT.
I too was considering upgrading to a Stage 2 APR chip, but after much research I didnt want to risk blowing my tranny and ending up with a pile of scrap!
there are fully modded CVT's on Audizine that are still going strong, but for how long who knows. I assume it is all in how you drive it.
Our CVT is rated to about 250LB/TQ, not sure on the HP....so APR Stage 2 will get you there, even Stage 1 might be pushing it.
All I have done is put on the Magnaflow cat back and I will install the Carbnonio intake, no real gains if any. And then focus on show.
But you could do APR Stage 3 with all supporting mods and be fine. Since your engine is pretty high on the mileage I would be wary, but its you car.
Search on Audizine there are a lot of threads on this topic, might be some on here too.
Also, you might want to get in touch with the guys at Eurocode tuning, they are one of the shops to upgrade a CVT to stage 3, I believe they did a custom tune on it to so that the power comes on pretty steady with no huge spikes.
I would be happy with what you have or sell it and get an A4/S4 with a manual tranny and quattro then go buck wild!
