2002 audi a4 1.8 total maintenance costs
I bought my Audi Quattro in January 2002.
For the 1st 3 years I did 98,000 and had very little maintenance costs due to warranty coverage.
In the last 5 years I did 148,000 kms and spent approx 13,900 in repairs and maintenance.
This is 5.3 cents per km from new or 8 cents per km for the last 5 years
I am now at 246,000 kms
Any comments?..are these maintenance costs normal for a "higher end " german car?
Anyone else keep track of their repairs over time?
thanks

Re: 2002 audi a4 1.8 total maintenance costs
well i spend so far for last 9 months about 3,600 for parts and labour.
I got it when it had 102,000 now its at 124,000
1000 - Clutch
1000 - New rad + water Pump and timing belt
300 - Brake Pads
100 - Air Filter
300 - Tires
300 - CV boots and petrol filter
300 - Deck
350 - oil changes ( Two Syn, and the rest conventional....every 5,000 k)
50 - Two jugs of coolant
And counting. About to get new headlights and exhaust
and rims ant tires for the summer.
So for me its going to be about 4000 in 10 moths.....
So thats seems reasonable to me.
I love my car though....after looking at the breakdown after writing it.....i really dont know why
7,000 with upgrades in five years??????? thats crazy cheap!

Re: 2002 audi a4 1.8 total maintenance costs
I feel like the maintenance really jumps after 100k...
usually second brake job, water pump and timing belt, for most of us we had to do ignition coils, wheel bearings, yadda yadda yadda...
i think after two years of ownership, im looking at approx 3.5-4k in repairs/maint (not including cost of oil changes, as you have to do these on whatever you drive anyways) and thats with alot of help from the forums, self diagnosis, and in some cases doing some work myself (damn fuel pump....)
that being said, 13.9 is high, but not unheard of.
best way to avoid these costs is to get rid of the car at 110k and get something newer. or pay for the repairs and drive it to the ground.
i think im starting to lean towards driving a newer car every couple of years. as much as i love my baby, id rather throw in 10k every couple years and drive something newer.

No question that mtce costs jump after 100k and german cars are known to be more costly than Japanese. Worth it IMO! That said, I'm on my 4rth Audi and have successfully avoided crossing over the 100k mark on every one of them ...

Re: 2002 audi a4 1.8 total maintenance costs
1st two were leased new ... the B6 A4 was heavily modded and I spend clost to $10k on mods/ mtce over 4 years but then sold off the mods and recouped a few thou selling the used mods. My last one 1 unloaded was a 2007 S4 with 7500 miles from the US (purchase price was a bargain compared to anything available up here). I rec'd an unsolicited offer for it (prior to owning it for 2 years) that was too good to refuse. Recently picked up my RS4 (CDN car with 60k) for close to wholesale so I expect to be able to drive the car for reasonable dollars prior to unloading it in 2010 or spring of 2011.
Given the choice, selling prior to getting to 100k makes sense due to the jump in mtce costs and most buyers percieve cars under 100k are of greater value.
