Just thought I'd post this if anyone needs the info. Yesterday went to open the hood and nothing happened. Cable was still attached in car and movement heard under hood but hood would not release.
I removed the chrome trim ring around the grill (just pried gently with large padded screwdriver), then pried the grill off the same way (gently). Up inside under the hood you can just see the 3 nuts that hold the latch mechanism to the hood. One nut on the passenger side and two on the drivers side. Using 10mm wrench I removed all three and the hood was open. Turns out things were gummed up in the latch and the cable ball had pulled free of the latch. A liberal application of lubricant and everything was working fine again.
