Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum . Anyways, my 1.8t a4 2001 makes a terrible sound when the engine is hot. On idle its intense but it follows the rpm. I googled a bit and found that the cam chain tensioner miggt be the problem. I am not sure so I took a video. If you have any idea it would be greatly appreciated.
So let me give some little more info about my problem. the sound will only happen about 10-15 mins after i start the engine and will slowly increase. After a while, it wont only make a weird sound when reving, it will also make a sound on idle (and the sound will follow the rpm). it really sounds like 2 pieces of metal hitting, and i first thought it was a problem with my fan, but everything is OK with it. holy crap man. sounds like a spun main bearing. thats really loud.

 

no idea whats causing that sound. I'd take it right away to a shop.

 

Yeah, I looked up spun main bearing. It really sounds like it. I'm guessing a check engine report won't tell me anything regarding this?
