Power locks fail to work

Power locks fail to work
Recently my power locks have failed me on my '99 A4 2.8 Q. My keyless entry will not unlock or lock, but it assumes it does because the alarm will set and the lights will flash but no locking of the doors actually occurs. My Central locking system power supply fuse is fresh, I have tried touching both Neg/Pos battery cables together (which fixed my gas gauge read out problem) and I still have nothing. I have disconnected the gas tank rod so I can fuel up, I have not tried to re-connect that to see if anything will be of use there. I am thinking it probably is a vacuum line somewhere that controls them, because hitting either the switch in the car, or the button on the remote triggers a pump, or a motor somewhere that I can hear.
If anyone has has this problem or knows what to do minus bringing it to your local Audi dealer (Mine is 300 miles away ) please let me know this has been bothering me for a few months!

Re: Power locks fail to work
Hey,
Check to see if in the trunk the pump is humming. That would mean your motor is turning and all you need is to fix the grafite disk inside so the pumps will work. Or your air lines could be cracked, so the locks are not getting enough pressure to lock or unlock. I tryed to rebuild this several times. Try a junkyard. I bought a new one, about $500.00 bucks, but now my remote doesn't work. At least I can unlock the drivers door with the key now. If anybody knows why the remote doesn't work please let me know. I will be checking back, and I will try to answer any questions I can.
Thanks
